Blackpowder and antique firearms get lost in the vast profusion of modern firearms, it's almost a suprise to find them.

It might be a much slower turnover category, but we're here too, and I'd really like to see it.

Anybody agree?

No i dont agree!

Not for Antique Handguns anyway.

I like it the way it is.

More people intrested in Handguns view the Handgun EE then see a nice Antique are surprised there not just old Percussion Handguns and then get intrested and start collecting cartridge revolvers ect.
You might get lost in the large amount of adds but you also get more people checking your stuff out. ;)

Thats just my Views on it.

I agree Bobby I think anyone selling an antique pistol or revolver would get a
better result if it was just people interested in antiques. I have also checked
the handgun EE just looking to see who is selling any antiques and get frustrated wading through all the other stuff. Now in an another way I see the
point Dingus is making as there is a lot of shoppers on that EE. Who knows what is best I dont have a lot of experience. Just my 2 cents.

While some antiques may go unrecognized and be posted with the modern guns, it is quite common for me to miss real antiques simply because they are buried in the clutter of modern stuff. That is particularly true if there is one antique amongst several modern guns in a single add.

Were there an blackpowder and antique section, you'd also get alot of curious clickers, who might also become interested.

As it stands now, I feel that more of us who are already interested are missing the for sales, than there are occasional newbies who get bitten by the antique "bug"

It would also be nicer for newbies to be able to scroll through many listings, including all the old completed sales, than only see one or two, now and again, that sort of thing gives the impression that there isn't a vibrant community of us stinky frontstuffers(which I beleive there is).

I'm not proposing splitting the EE up into, blackpowder, modern muzzle, blackpowder pistol, flint, percussion, etc..etc..

I'd just like to see one large blackpowder, antique and muzzleloader section in the EE.

Well i see your and other points for it.
One thing good about the idea is your Add wont be bumped off the frist page in one or two days by 15 other adds.
I guess its worth a Try.
I just know how long the Knife guys asked before they got a section it wasnt quick comeing.
And id still have to check the other sections anyway cause like Mooncoon says a guy listing 4 Rifles and ones Antique they wont list the Antique one in the Antique section it will be in the Hunting rifles section with the other 3 modern guns.
So more surfing will be the end result.

Well If CGN wants to take the liabilty of having a "no liscence needed" handgun section then so be it.
Who is gonna take the responsibility of policing this. Will we all be wondering if we should write the mods about old guns that are not antiques? or repros being flogged as originals. (apparenlty the ontario CFO identifies this as a 'real problem')

Having the antiques in a place where restricted firearms appear means that most people seeing them are legitimate handgun guys and they are not teenagers in toronto with a blackberry locked onto the no liscense needed page!

I have sold a few antiques on the Pistols and revolvers EE. some ads said antique in the title most purposefully did not. They all sold in the same amount of time because the potential customers knew what they wanted as opposed to simply knowing they could get a gun with out a liscence.

this is not going to happen, 90% of guys who sell in the EE pull thier ads very quickly after a sale and most replace the price with SPF immediatley. lots of good reasons for this.

I think the word antique does not mean without registration there are plenty of antique winchesters etc. I think we're getting confused perhaps pre.1898 would be a better way of putting it a place to sell all antique guns not just the ones without registration

if I was trying to sell an 1878 45 long colt or a minty 73 winchester I sure would'nt pigeon hole it in the black powder EE. LOL.
I also would'nt try to flog my 1890s small ring mausers in the antique section, or would I try to sell my 1880s fine english upland game guns in the pre 1898 section. I'd put them where guys who are interested in them are. milsurp/shotguns/sporting arms etc.

I have never looked at the knife EE but I bought one once that caught my eye in another sales forum.

pre 1898 means nothing in Canada. Antique means antiques as defined by the Act. like I was trying to say above, an 1897 dated 7x57 mauser with a kahles scope and double set trigger is a sporting arm it aint Antique and it aint blackpowder.

What you are saying is you want an "OLDER THEN THE OTHER GUNS" EE. LOL. So if I advertise one of my above expamples (pre 1898)in sporting arms or milsurp will the mods make me move it to languish beside a crappy belgium bulldog and a 100 dollar imitation flintlock?

Not that if for or against but here's an idea for those that want one...

You want a prescribed antique EE...

We have a folder within this "BP and Antiques" group for posting of prescribed antiques only. Once posted, it automatically posts in the appropriate EE category (dont know how easy this would be - I suppose there would have to be an option of double posting in the appropriate EE category or the mods woul allow a doubel post?) Then only "BP and Antiques" subscribers can see the prescribed antique adds and everyone else can see them in the EE.

That way none of you would be pigeon holed...

Problem is how do you restict it to only prescribed antiques? The mods would have to watch it as they do the other categories and delete or move thoes that arent posted as prescribed antiques.

does that work for everybody? Maybe im out to lunch...;)

Nobody said that you would "have too" put your old 1897 7X57 Mauser in the Blackpowder and Antique EE, obviously it would only fit in the Hunting and Sporting Arms section since it is not an antique according to the Act anyway due to it's smaller caliber which is stated in the Act. And in this Act pre 1898 seems to have something to do with it(see below). I personally would like to see a Blackpowder and Antique EE, I happen to like muzzleloading and cartridge black powder rifles and they do disapper quickly and get lost in the Hunting rifle EE. I'm sure that you can still try to flog your vastly superior super jewels where you want.

Rifles:
manufactured before 1898 that can discharge only rim-fire cartridges, other than 22 Calibre Short, 22 Calibre Long or 22 Calibre Long Rifle cartridges;

manufactured before 1898 that can discharge centre-fire cartridges (whether with a smooth or rifled bore), have a bore diameter of 8.3 mm or greater, measured from land to land in the case of a rifled bore, with the exception of a repeating firearm fed by any type of cartridge magazine

Just so we're still clear here guys,

I'd like to see a blackpowder and antiques section in the EE.

-gunnutz wouldn't be responsible for verifying, authenticating, or determining status (legal or otherwise) any more than it does now for any other portion of the EE

- no separation between blackpowder, antiques, pistol, rifle, carbine, cartridge, muzzleloader......lets not get silly and start splitting hairs.

-Just all blackpowder, and all antiques(pre-1900), there will still be fairly low numbers compared to other sections of the forums.
