should i buy a cz 858??

If you can, buy one of the chrome barreled ones, as most of the readily-available ammo is very corrosive. I have one of each, an 858 and a 58L, and I tend to use the chrome-barrelled 58L more, just because I don't want to have to worry quite so much if my barrel-cleaning job isn't 100%! :p

I, too, will probably buy one of the shorties when they come in...

You know, I just sold my SKS (in 80minutes!) and I have just bought an 858, and I have to comment on your statement (and others like it). I was concerned about corrosive ammo too, when I got the SKS, but you know, I have more important things to worry about. SHOOT IT!!! :)

I am not going to worry about whether I have cleaned only 98% of the salts out because I know that when I shoot it again, I will clean it again, and they are meant to shoot. It is like my Russian motorcycle, it is meant to be used and not to sit! It is steal and it will rust unless used and taken care of, so treat it as such. It is a safe bet that every one of my milsurps from the '40s and early years of this century used corrosive ammo extensively, and not one shows signs of rust.

My .02. and I don't mean to jump on you....:)

No

Loved mine - sold it to finance a very very special deal and now want another one!

Plus, since it's a big steel military gun, you can clean it without worrying about damaging the stock wood (there isn't any) or any other parts.

Get a big pot (bigger the better) of boiling water, pour half into a soapy bucket with all the parts you can remove from the gun, run a brush through the gun, then swish the gun around in the hot water and pour it all over. Continue cleaning as usual. EASY!

i think you and other are obsessed about getting the barrel 100% clean , its non chrome so it would take too much work to get it to 100% , my patch is still dirty after cleaning and i have no problem .

first i run a brush thru the bore a few times to loosen the salt then pour a 1L of water from an electric kettle down the chamber to wash away the salt , no funnel is needed , let it over spill , quickly run dry patch to get rid of the water and then do normal cleaning , which are half a dozen stroke by clean brush and half a dozen by oil patch. then using a 2" paint brush , oil the rest of the rifle . done in 40 min.

i bought one as soon as i seen em. it might depend if you get the chrome lined barrel or not. i didnt get the chrome barrel ( more cleaning though) and me and a friend were surprise at what a good gun it is for the price...i didnt really like the fake wood crap though but thats it. worth every penny

I think they are great and came inches from buying one but some of you guys have the weirdest logic. Buying them now with all this talk of assualt rifle bans just seems like huge wast of money. They should be selling for 100 bucks now not 700 .The government won't grandfather or compensate in my opinion just sieze and thats that .Money down the tubes.

I am worried they will take my newly purchased AR. And my handguns.
Might be lucky to be left with a ruger 22 pinned to 1 shot and a full size shotgun and single shot 308 hunting rifle. Not looking good the future for gun owners in Canada.

So .Ben...since you've had the benefit of our wisdom for a whole week, I have to ask,

Have You Bought One Yet????????

get the 858, while the sks is a neat rifle in it's own right, my preference is for the 858. get a short magazine as well.

mine is my rainy day deer gun.

I was talking to Ben the other day on the way home from school and he was saying that he plans to buy a CZ-858-2 at Ellwood Epps this weekend.

Just got my CZ from Frontier today, along with a case of ammo. I don't really know what I was expecting....BUT I LIKE!!! It looks and feels great...even with the faugh wood and grey paint. This is my first foray into Black/Red tacticool rifles and it is sweet! I was also impressed with the leather magazine bag and bayonet frog (right term?) that came with it. Unfortunately, I am stuck moving this weekend, so I won't be able to test her out, but then my new home is 5KM from a range.... :D

This is the second rifle I have purshased from Frontier, the first being my M14, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
