Best 9mm Ammo for Self defence?

This one...

Pussy round? Take a few of these then let us know how it feels.

Well that looks familiar ;) - my very favorite 9x19 pill...

Federal 147gr hydrashock is reliable and available in BC at least. I dont recal ever seeing the winchest stuff on the shelves here though. I have never tried it.

But I shoot JHPs out of all my guns. I reload too.

I trust Hornady XTPs.

If you go to a bigger calibre you get more choices over the bullet compsition such as alloy and jacket thickness.

But I would just add that whatever you buy for self defense, make sure its something that you can get more than just a box of. You'll need to practice, lots. And it wont do to practice with a different ammo.

For all the people balking about going to jail for defending yourself...

I know. You are right. But I dont care. If it comes down to that, I'll be alive. I'll work on the rest from there.

Certain people know I feel that way about it and I know my door is still attached to the frame because of it.

Best defensive pistol is a .45. As for for home defence, 12 gauge works really well. less penetrative than a 9mm but deadly at close range. Check out what the military and police prefer. the .45 and 12 gauge have been around a long time, there is a reason for that... It's called experience!

Regarding the legality of it all...
If you're concerned for your well-being, then it is essential to first secure your premises as thoroughly as possible. This means quality door, locks, etc. Bars on the window look tacky, though, IMO so I wouldn't go that route!
However, I believe if you coated your windows in a mild tint, the tint acts as a layer of film that would keep it more intact.

What will all of this do?
Two things...
1.) Give you more time had something gone down and you needed to react.
2.) Provide more justifiable validity to your case by proving that you prepared more than the reasonable person in taking precautions for your safety as well as your loved ones.

With that being said, I have heard a lot of praise around golden sabres and hydrasoks (sp.?)

F*ck that noise!!! Its my property. Locked doors or not, no one has the lawful right to enter my home or access my property without permission. If it isn't yours don't touch. This constant bullsh*t of turning ones home into a prison or limiting ones activities in the name of "justified defense" is complete bullsh*t. A reinforced exterior on ones home is to deter theft when you're not home, nothing more.

A reasonable person locks their doors and closes the windows. A reasonable person isn't concerned with ignorant "laws" and will defend themselves and their property with the appropriate force and means.

You enter my home without my greetings you're getting shot..

But you have to play to the backwards priorities of the CJS. If somebody is going to break barriers that you have created to get inside, then it's reasonable to assume that they have a weapon capable of doing you harm, as well as the intention of using it.

You can play that game. I won't. Unlawful entry is enough for me to "fear for my life and the life of my family. I need a lawyer." Stop worrying about the legal side of a situation. You have to survive the fight before you can begin to worry about the legal fallout.

whaaaat???

sure, 12g is the most common shotgun for LE and Military, but .45 ACP?

name me more than two Canadian LEOs that carry .45.

if it's not 9millie, it's usually .40s&w

TDC if someone simply entering your house is reason enough for you to fire upon them. Maybe you shouldn't have guns in the first place. Ditch the big bad tough guy attitude.

A reasonable person does NOT carry the attitude "You enter my home without my greetings you're getting shot".

And like mr00jimbo says theres a lot of stupid priorities in the CJS. The person you fire on has to be an active threat, if they turn tail and run (which is probably what they would do) you cannot fire on them. If the are armed or coming at you, its a good idea to fire at them, becuase they are actually a threat.

I agree, I don't think anyone has the right to go in your house and take your things, or hurt you and your family. But you should do something to safe guard it instead of playing tough guy. The fact plain and simple is: thieves steal, rapists rape, and killers kill. Because you are Mr. action hero on a forum saying you'd drop them without hesitating doesn't matter to them, nor does the fact you may literally carry the convictions of shooting a man for simply being in your home without your permission. They want to steal from you they will try. They want to hurt you, they will try.

Save the bullets for an actual threat. What happened to a good old fashioned beat down. If someone is in your house without your "greetings" and they don't have a weapon, I'd says its ass whooping time.
