Which one is further ahead?

Mine says:

Application Received on: 2008/09/08

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

My brothers says:

Application Received on: 2008/09/08

Current Status: Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date.

My brother is 2 years younger then me never had any dealings with the police. I have had some issues but never been charged/convicted. I am thinking mine will be slower then this but the stuff above makes me believe mine will be quicker.

Just getting impatient especailly when I have a membership to a gun club for over 500 bucks and its just getting pissed away since I don't really want to shoot unless its my own gun.

Sounds to me like your bro messed something up on his application. Mine was received on sept 2 and says, Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. Myself and my references were called on sept 18. Still same status online.... It is perfectly legal to buy a firearm without a licence. You just need to purchase it at a range/store that will store it for you until your pal arrives and you can legally transfer it into your name. Until then you can shoot YOUR firearm at that range!

Oh ya, one more thing I remembered. The lady I spoke with at the RCMP told me if your answering machine does not state your name, they do not leave a message.

DVC is a good range, not to mention the only indoor one in Metro Van. Since I don't yet have a gun, it's great to drop in and try them out, but it's way too expensive to consider joining. If you live in that area I'd have gone to PoCo instead, only $140 for the year www.pcdhfc.com/

As for your original question, your application is further ahead than your brothers.

Your's: COMPLETED initial processing.
Brother's: BEING processed.

You're ahead. Could be a small error in paperwork and/or if he's very young that may be their subjective reason why they want to talk to him. Probably not a big deal if he's clean. Being patient is part of the gun owner's life. I assume your expensive membership is for a club that has an indoor range with returning targets, espresso, hot tub and reloading by bikini clad babaes?

^haha I wish!!

I'm not even close to them I just knew I would get my license sometime in the winter and indoor would be best so I joined. I assumed I would get it in 30 days. I then found out I needed to wait more then 30 days just to do the course and then another 45 days to get a license :(

In the end it will all be worth it. Let us know (with pics) when you get your dream gun.

That's standard and a good thing. You don't want them leaving a msg about your guns at a wrong number. Also the Privacy Act comes into play...

$500 is too much for me too... but DVC is actually a great place to shoot and it's the only place in the Vancouver area where you can show up and rent a gun (or a few). As someone who is new to shooting, this has been a fantastic resource in making and educated decision on what kind of handgun to purchase.

18 days from mailing application to receipt of RPAL card

Decided to renew my RPAL in case the election goes south & the Liberals reinstate the fees.

Mailed RPAL application (non-restricted, restricted, 12-6) September 6, 2008.

Received RPAL September 24, 2008.

Not bad for Ontario.

Life Memberships: NRA, GOA, CSSA, NFA, OFAH
CCW Permits: Utah, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine

my brothers application had a credit card number that didn't work. He lost his credit card shortly after sending it in!

they called me yesterday to ask me a bunch of questions. They then called my dad who is one of my references and asked him a few things.

anyone know how much longer after they check references? I'm getting toooo impatient! I hate waiting...

Update:

My references were done at least a week before my brother's were. My application says:

Application Received on: 2008/09/08

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I wonder why mine is taking so long

I called them and they told me my application has been with the "cheif firearms officer" since sept 29. Hope I get mine soon I even have a gun club membership. My brother only signed up because I kept telling him to go to the class with me I don't think he even cares if he gets it LOL
