The Adams Arms “AR-Fix”

A revolutionary new "Retro-Fit Piston Driven Cycling System" for the AR15/M-16 rifle. Adams Arms piston driven systems replace the problematic impingement system currently associated with the mil-spec Ar15, m16 style rifles. Won't touch it - every dedicated piston system addresses the bolt carrier tilt problem. These "retro" kits are just quick ways to make some money form consumer who just have to have a piston to feel good.
 
there USED to a viable point to this way back when we had relaibilty problems with funny ammo - used to called after a large horny african animal- i'm trying very hard NOT to mention the name- but with the ammo esp the powder improved, there is no reason to have this- the only reason the system was installed was b/c of full auto relaibility- the calcium chloride in the powder would weld the bolts shut

And would probably weld the piston rod shut too.

I remember all the grief we had with the piston rod and gas plugs on the FNs, I like cleaning the C7 much better. Never had to take a hammer and wrench to get it apart. I still have nightmares about that gas plug.

well, actually, there was SUPPOSED to be enough of a DELAY to allow the powder to "cool down"and stop that- there was a large screw on the front end that allowed you to vary the size of the "gas expansion chamber"- savvy armorers just took a length of cleaning rod , put it in a hand drill, put a bit of emery cloth on the jag, and polished the heck out of the chamber- this was not necessary when the "improved" ammo with the new powders came along
 
Damn, where have I been - I didn't know the AR was broken :redface:. Quick, someone tell the guys in Afghanistan they're using rifles that need to be fixed. :rolleyes:
 
Piston options are the Hk416 or the LWRCI guns --

I dont trust piston retro's - as 1 they dont as GT mentioned take into account carrier tilt, nor are the bolt carriers desgined to take the impact from a piston.
Piston gasblocks NEED to be pinned into the gun.
 
I have no experience with a gas piston AR.

That said, I have a couple of FN's and an AK sitting in the vault here at NavyShooter HQ.

Looking at the both of them, their gas systems are....quite....beefy.

I note that they do both fire a considerable larger cartridge (.30 cal), however, I believe that the operating pressures are somewhat similar. (Someone feel free to correct me on that if I'm wrong)

I'll note what KevinB has said above, and point at the nice, beefy gas system on my FN's, and whisper something along the lines of "ditto"

AR18 gas system isn't super beefy, at least not near as much as an AK or FN. How ever, the gun was designed to use it.

Retrofitting anything rarely ever ends in success.
