I got a good deal on a new Tapco stock for my SKS but it's not the version that has a cut in it for a bayonet. Any ideas on making the cut for my spike bayonet? I was thinking I would use my dremel tool.

Dremel tool would be a great way to say "Bubba owned this." Have you ever tried cutting a straight line with a dremel?

I'd use a drop saw with plastic/aluminium blade... just lower it enough to make a nice, straight, factory-looking cut (don't go too deep) :)

---- Alternative

Heat up the spike to near red hot with a torch (in the area to contact the stock), then drop it on the stock and allow it to melt into the stock. Dunk it in water when it's melted all the way and remove the bubbled over excess with a razor :)

Do it outside to avoid inhaling plastic smoke.

*Warning* This method could ruin your stock... but could look good too ;) It's a gamble.

Thanks, that may be a better idea. I have never tried a straight cut with a dremel. :D

Unless you think you are actually going to need the bayonet, why not just take it off?

I think the bayonet looks neat and it's strong as h###! I opened a box of surplus with it just to simulate how they did it in the middle of battle. :D Ripped the weld right open in a matter of seconds.
