The thing about this pic is the fact that
everybody looks at the stickers and goofs out,
but they don't question that weird mag.
No so-called mag-spine (or well for the tab that pushes the "empty mag hold-open")
and the tape (just to make the appearance look like the 5.45 AK mags??).
Even the bottom plate looks weird.
Mag release is in its place, though.

IMO, that is not what 2 mags taped together look like.
On vz58, there is no way you can tape mags side-by-side
without spacers between them, because they don't fit into the receiver.
Actually, there are very few guns in the world
that allow you to use side-by-side mags without spacers.
If you don't want to use spacers, you HAVE TO tape them in "69".
So, where is the second mag's tip (lips) in that pic???
And more important for me, where is the spine of the mag(s)???

While I have no doubt that there is a single mag in that pic,
I do not try to convince anybody of that.
However, the question that bugs me is what kind of mag is it?
I see no spine under that tape.
The tape is not very thick or very stiff
since I can see some of the ribs on the sides.
But it is also possible that the light and angle in that pic play tricks
and make it hard to see the spine.

(and it turns out that there were a couple of posts
questioning that mag at that time as well).

I tried to play with the light (but indoors), with flash and without,
at what I thought would be angles similar to the pic in question.
This is what I came up with.
I can see or "guess" the spine silouette under the fold line of the masking tape,
every single time, no matter how the light is.
Well, in the original pic, I cannot.
That makes me think that might be some kind of odd mag.
Now somebody tape 2 mags together (side-by-side or 69)
and see how thick it looks like, at a similar angle.

Lector is right. Its just some decorative plastic wrapped around the mag. These people have very little posessions so they like to bling out what they do have (kinda like us). Google "gingle trucks" for further study into their culture. And if you really care about the mission and the country wiki "Pashtunwali". Pretty unique and interesting culture.
As much as I hate to break up this discussion on magazines, hockey tape, and taliban kids stickers, now that the election's over....
What about the VZ 59???
Edit - Deckard, any suggestions about what to do about that POS order to remove all czech ammo? That's going to really impact the importers (which is exactly what they want I bet).
