The coolness of cartridges...

The .35 Whelen was kool but isn't anymore. I'm selling mine.:(

But add .008" and the resulting cartrigde is waaay kool - especially if it's in an Oberndorf Mauser.:)

The .375 Ruger would be pretty kool in a Mauser 98 but not so much in a Ruger.

The koolest rifles are those built on Mauser 98's:cool:(except the one's with sliding safeties - those are very unkool:eek:)

I've named her the "Fonz", thjat's how cool she is

The words "Her" and "Fonz" should never be used before or after each other.

For sale one Mastercraft tool bench and an SKS with tapco stock. Will trade for Kool Snap On tool bench and Kool rifle in any Kool calibre. Will throw in extra cash for the deal. Let me know as my insecurity is growing by the minute! LMAO
:dancingbanana:

I have:

Rem 700 SPS Varmint in 204 Ruger
Win 70 in 25-06
Rem 700 in 7mmWSM

The last two are custom rifles. So can I join the KOOL crowd?

PS. I owned 2 308's but decided they weren't kewl enough

As long as they are not "pinning" each other down on their camp cots... These two are close, very close! :)

I'm surte we'll be regaled with fancyful stories of gruesome maimings (not necessarily game animals), as well as how beautifully they slept in the cosy ONE man temt:eek:...

And FYI, I could have gone with these two, but bartell regaled me with horror stories that made me wary *hint: see above quote* :runaway:

Plus I'm going moose hunting on Thursday. :D

I just sold everything I own(except my really cool 300 win mag) to buy the ultimate KEWL rifle.

A 700 ti, in 7mm Short Action Ultra Mag.

But that's not what makes it KEWL, Rembo got it BDL'd for me.

Wooo Hoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

AM I KEWL yet, damn my name should at least help me a bit...MacCool

I bet we woudl hear more of that except that the .300 WM is more popular than the Weatherby;)

The Weatherby would be more popular if it wasn't for the additional cost the name imparts, and the lack of rifles so chambered.

The .300 Win Mag is the cheap kool guy's .300 magnum , the Weatherby is for the classier more refined and willing to pay extra for essentially the same thing kool guy.

Here's a strange one....shorter than a 300 Winny but most owners will tell you it's faster.....308 Norma owners must have access to the same magic pixie dust that 280 owners use to make thier 280's as fast as the 7Rem Mag....I suppose it's a good cartridge to chamber if your action won't hold a 300 Win or a 300 Wtby....

The case capacity difference is very small, and made up for by the fact it isn't a SAAMI spec cartridge. The European pressure spec for the .308 Norma is higher than for the SAAMI spec'd .300 Win Mag.

Of course as soon as you load it to the same pressure spec, that advantage goes out the window.

The shorter neck on the Win Mag also cuts into powder space sooner with the longer bullets, although the loss of space is very small.

In the field, the difference between these two is insignificant. What you are shooting at will never know the difference.

Psst. You know what is really kewl?

Taking a rifle chambered for any cartridge and having a lot of fun with it.

Enough of this boutique cartridge jerking off. Pick a rifle chambered in a cartridge you haven't used for some time, research it, and have some fun with it - whether at the range or hunting. That's cool!

My 1886 in 33 WCF awaits me.

Kool, schmool. As a firm believer in tolerance and diversity, I have never met a cartridge that I did not like.

Let's get back to basics; we're descended from apes. Apes throw things. The first proto-gun nut was probably an ape who brained a leopard or its dinner with a well-aimed rock. All other projectile weapon developments since have been refinements on that first rock, from sharpening the rocks and putting better handles on them to small, light, high-penetration/high velocity rocks launched from bows to metal rocks, and finally to launching rocks out of tubes with gunpowder.

Give that first rockthrowing ape a badly maintained, bubba'd Remmy 710 in .30-06 plastered with Hello Kitty and Liberal Party stickers, and his reaction would be "Ook? Ook?! OOOK! OOOOOOK! OOOOOOK!" Which, roughly translated, means "That critter way over there? I can kill it from here with this? And it makes a really loud bang? KOOOL!"

His next reaction would probably be to look at a cartridge, scratch his head, and say "Gronk, oook oook oook?". Which means "Hey, is there any way we could squeeze some more gunpowder into this thing?"

Anything that lets fat, out of shape, middle-aged human beings like me go out into the wild (or even my back forty) and kill dinner like their ancestors did? That's cool in my books, and I wouldn't turn down a gun in any of those calibers, assuming it was in good shape and shot well. Hell, that first rock would be really cool to have, too.

It goes with out saying that a cool cartridge must be chambered in a cool rifle...

Pistol calibers in bolt rifles are cool. I have the Ruger 77/44 rifle and it is about 6 pounds and more accurate then a lever 44. I would love to get a 9mm in a bolt 5 pound rifle someday. The ammo is so cheap and the round is very handy for short range work on animals upto coyotes.
