Czech 7.62x39 now banned in Canada! WTF? False alarm, all is well.

I know of no large, international plants producing "substandard" ammunition. We do not need NRCAN to monitor the safety of ammo. Most dangerous situations with ammo occur with US made ammo that is defective. Just look at the number of recalls. Just like any other product, there are defects at times. A system of authorization cannot stop this.

so, who's selling windex by the crate these days, it looks like some of you will be cleaning up a storm on those red rifles:p
btw i will be buying my first red(a cz-858-2) on friday, and have one crate already with another on hold with the rifle:)

No its not. I sent an email to them after reading this last night. I was quoted $280/case plus taxes and shipping. I figured it out and would be paying close to $400/case. THAT is BS. My SKS will collect dust and rot before i pay that amount for ammo.

Thats funny since guys from here came in and bought some for $267 today. Also, $280 plus tax is $313 don`t know how that equals $400

No, it was a trial balloon. They meant to stir it up to see what we'd do.

Incompetence isn't always a conspiracy.

Why the #### would they care what we'd do? It's not like they're responsible to the public. If they meant it, they'd do it. Simple as that.

I was told that shipping was going to be on top of that. I do know that Lever arms charges $50-55 for shipping. Since your obviously thinking im full of s**t here is the email from YOUR store.

Greetings back,

Yes, we do have several cases of surplus Czech 7.62x39mm ammo left in stock
right now. I heard a nasty rumour that this won't be allowed into Canada
for sale anymore, but will check with the distributor about that info to see
if it is true or not? For now, unless the "powers that be" tell us any
different, we'll continue to sell the stock we have on hand. We've been
selling it for $5.99 per box of 20 by the single box, or full cases of 56
boxes for $280.00 plus tax and shipping. No idea on the shipping cost to be
honest, so if you decide you do want some of this ammo let us know and we'll
try to get you a shipping cost estimate then. It's just that we're in the
middle of our hunting season, short staffed, and have a major promotional
flyer out right now, so are very busy selling at the counter. I can try to
get our shipper/receiver to get an estimate, but she's up to her ears
receiving stock as fast as we can sell it right now .....

Thanks for your enquiry,

Al Page, Hunt Shop Manager
Island Outfitters Ltd.

I may have gone overboard with my $400 guesstimation and I will admit to my error there.

What he said.

Gentlemen,

This little tempest in a teapot was got on to early and cleared up with little further ado.

The paranoia regarding this kind of manifestation is understandible given the over 30 year concerted attack by bureaucracy that we have been subject to, but the fact is that the Czech 7.62X39 is now solved. Happy shooting.

Now let's all get back to the job of electing the kind of government that can put an end to the kind of anti gun agenda that facilitates this.

One might say the same about the new proposed reloading regulations that they floated in 2004/2005 or the "Inexplosive components" gambit from before that.
Or the "Restrict the mini-14" move.

Nope, I'm leaning much more to the "conspiracy" camp on this one.

These guys are just staying warm, waiting for the next lieberal government.

"...Lever arms charges $50-55 for shipping..." Shipping rates are set by the carrier, not the seller. Goes by weight, size of the package, distance and any applicable Hazmat fees.

I realize that but that was the rate at which lever arms was going to charge me for a case of 9mm (500rds) and a case of 12ga (250rds) I just "assumed" that price was in the ballpark of shipping from the South island to the North island.
If I have irked anyone then I apologize.

Sorry, but it's not tinfoilish to suggest government sometimes acts resolutely, but often takes the small steps, testing our will along the way. For argument's sake, would it be out of line to suggest that banning ammunition would kill the shooting sports?

I agree, but this time it sounds like a newbie fahg up. I talked with two different people at NRCan and they were not impressed with the little "mishap". Oh and the fact that we hammered them with phone calls and emails.
