Well, over the last couple months, my wife has been enjoying her very first deer rifle. Every time i handle it i wonder if i went too far in getting her everything she wanted (she wanted pretty, just so we are all clear, i was in charge of quality control) I suppose you could say i am a bit jealous, especially since i exhausted the gun buying account for a while with this one.

What she got:

Remington Model Seven, stainless synthetic, chambered in 260 rem.
Sighted with a Leupold Vari-X Compact 3-9x33 mm (old stock, but NIB)
Held in place with Leupold 2 peice bases and dovetail rings

I am trying my hardest not to commadere this rifle for mulie season, but i hope she knows that if i ever get drawn for sheep, she will be sans rifle for a bit.

that's waaaay too practical...and smart....way to go......:)

although that sling with ammo detracts from the "lightweight" theme of the rifle.....you' be surprised what that weighs with 4 rounds in it...I'd go with a 1" nylon sling...

Nice rig. You are lucky to have a spouse that shares your interests.

She is working on that, she often acts disinterested but goes to be with me, but when it comes down to a bit of action, her attitude changes on a dime. For example, i took her out coyote calling, to give her a chance at practising field shots before it gets down to the nitty gritty, her first full deer season. She mumbled and graoned about having to cross a fence, but once we were in the blind and she spotted mr coyote inbound, that aggraviation turned to anticipation. Unfortunately the dog outsmarted us and no shots were fired, but she is learning about the excitement of the hunt.

Rembo,

The lightweight theme is not as prevalent as it would seem, the compact scope is more asthetically inspired than anything. I thought a full size 40 mm would just be oversized on such a trim rifle. If the Mrs dumps this sport and i have to take the rifle back, then a fibreglass handle and a lighter set of rings and bases will be in order, although i would think the weight distribution offered by this sling would offset the extra weight it adds enough to be a non-issue, in the event that i find myslef trying to trim every ounce.

Pretty nice set up .I have the same rig , except mine is topped with a Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5 x 32.
Nice light rifle , with enough snot for moose , yet very light in the recoil department.
I think she'll be pleased with it.

when i got my first gun, i didn't want my hubby to influence my decision(to something he wanted) so i brought his friend with me.
I bought a browning 270wsm a-bolt WGM, with a leupold 4x12x40 vx2 adjustable object scope. I went all out it was fun!
he has bought me a few guns afterwards(but really they were for him)! LOL

And let the dry-runs commence!:runaway:

But in all seriousness, if your hubby doesn't want a A-Bolt in a 270 WSM, he's nuts! Good choice in rifles for that open Southern Alberta country right up into the mountains.
