I won't have time to reload for this season and have never hunted with a smaller caliber. It will be tested out on mule deer coming up here and these are my local ammo choices. What bullet? I know alot depends if my rifle will shoot the ammo well but Iam hoping any choice will shoot minute of deer out to 250-300. I know some of the premium bullets aren't needed for deer but those are my options. Thanks.

They are all good for deer. Use whichever shoots better out of your rifle. The 100gr Ballistic Tip would probably be my last choice.

I used 120 Noslers in a 257 Wby, loaded to 25-06 velocities, dropped both deer on the spot... great bullet, both pass thru's...

Let the rifle tell you what to use.

Take your best picks test drive them and the top grouper, gets the job.

FWIW: they will all take game.

Shot placement is the key.

Can't help as I reload almost all I shoot. But the Sierra is usually a very accurate bullet, try that first!

I reload aswell but with work and when I will recive the gun it's just not an option for this season. It has been many years since I fired a factory box of ammo from a hunting rifle.

Those that are voting TSX isn't that too tuff of a bullet for deer. I always thought so but have never used a Barnes of any kind. I recently read an article that said that most people that bash the barnes have never shot them and go on hear say. Might have to just learn for myself.

I know but at 32-42 bucks a box I was gonna start with a couple boxes of one type and see how it does and hopefully it shoots good enough to use this year and then I will be reloading for it after that. I agree they should all take game with good shot placement just looking for whats a popular bullet choice of shooters (especially .25-06 shooters)

Winchester 120gr PEP

My Father shot his first moose with this combo.

The TSX is not too tough. I shot this buck with a .257 Weatherby and 75gr X bullet launched at just under 4000fps. The shot was behind the shoulder and the bullet opened up very well.

My vote would go for the 100gr TSX, but make sure you clean the barrel real well with CR-10 or some other good copper remover.

It will give the penetration of the heavier bullets but will increase your MPBR making your range estimation less challenging.

I was going to work up a load for the 115grn Accubonds this year for deer but never got around to it, then my bullet tumbler broke :(

so thats my first choice.

25-06 is a great little round for deer.

i have some Winchester 120gr Positive Expanding Points. i use the same PEP 90 grainers as a varmint round, so i am very hesitant to try the 120gr PEPs on a deer for fear of a nasty blow-up. theyre basically a massive hollowpoint varmint round.

has anyone actually tried the Positive Expanding Points on deer? at what range? where did you hit them? did they strike bone? what was the result?

i have several .308s so i can always just use one of those if there is even a small risk of a blowup with the PEPs. i dont have time to experiment around new types of ammo for the .25-06. theyre marketed as a deer round which is the only reason i am asking -- common sense is telling me theyre not a good choice.

They work just fine on deer. I've killed 2 or 3 over the years with them plus one moose. I use the Hornady 117 the most because it shoots the best in my particular gun

cheers

I am shooting the 117 grain Hornadys. They group real good, and kill deer like a lightening bolt. I also load the 100 and 120 grain Speer. I also load the 120 grain Speer for a buddy. He uses them for moose, and they kill them real quick. I have been shooting the 25 06 for a lot of years, and have found that all of mine prefer hot loads with whatever bullet that is chosen. I am at the moment loading reloader 22 over 120 grain Speers, and performance is outstanding. P.M. me, Jayph, if you want any of my load data.
