Tiny X bullet

very impressive Todd thanks alot for this thread finally the real answer to "22-250, 233 for deer?" threads we see on a daily basis.......

I vote to make this a sticky I think it would be great to have a thread full of shots like these so we can see how different bullets perform on game.
I don't know what the big deal is, people have been using 22 centerfires for a zillion years Stateside, and in other parts of Canada, not to mention SA and Eroupe.
I seem to recall a Zebra shot with a Hornet in the Barnes book a few years back.....

todbartell,

What cartridge are you shooting the 45 grain out of?

Great pics! Really chopped up that liver (the lungs are the pink things in the background, no?:D)

I'm looking forward to being able to use a 223 for deer! Those 45 grain TSX's look like a kick-ass pick.

Cheers
Trev

I know what a liver is, and the bullet didnt even come close to it. That liverish looking black blood goo is taken from the front of the cavity. Bullet entered right behind the shoulder and through lungs, top of heart, exited same spot on the far side. The liver was fine, Gatehouse asked me if I wanted to eat and I declined because I dont like liver :)

the cartridge is 221 Remington Fireball

I dont think its a huge deal I just think it would be nice to have a thread were you can see the bullet performance on game......and I think its a huge deal that this thread puts to death the daily "can I use a .22 for deer threads"......and also shuts up the gangs of people that jump in with "I dont advise using such a small bullet...ect"......

the answer is now "Yes you can use a .22cal centerfire on deer sized game just fine as long as the bullet is of a good quality and the shot placement is good there will be no issues taking a deer with a .22cal centerfire"....

I may just have to try some of these little things! it put the smack down on that deer!

Sould get 3200 out of my 222.

cool! never underestimate a well placed shot and a great bullet!

I dunno, we still get the " is the 30/30 good enough for moose?" threads every year and we still get people saying "no".

the problem is that if you start making statements like that, through word of mouth the 'with good quality bullets' part will be lost and some idiot is going to be out there shooting deer with 45 grain Winchester .223 varmint bullets.

the number of hunters that would reload a quality bullet like the 45 gr. TSX, understand its limitations, and take a deer sized animal humanely with it probably only represent a very small portion of .223 owners.
