Winchester .22 ammunition

I burned off a brick of dynapoints between my cooey and mkII without a hitch, I agree they are excellent bulk ammo. Only thing I didnt like about them was they "sounded" a bit weaker than the xperts and hit 1" lower at 50 yards. But they shot exellent groups and functioned flawlessly in both rifles. I had sighted in using the xperts and found the dynapoints to be 1" lower, yellow jackets were 1" higher, and the federal bulk was dead on. As I stated previously, in my mkII, neither the xpert or the yellow jacket will feed reliably, and of course the cooey will eat anything made. I bought a box of the "333" today which I plan on shooting tomorrow if weather permits. I do not have high hopes though, as they simply look like copper plated xperts with the gaping hollow point and all. Im sure the cooey will devour them, but, knock on wood, I think the savage will have trouble with them simply due to the shape.

Dynapoints shoot really well out of My Savage Mako. The experts, well, not to bad at closer ranges (25-30m). I haven't shot alot of them, I should experiment more; but for the buck, I think Dynapoints are hard to beat.

Just a quick update, as I had feared, the MKII had feeding issues with the "333" and I got one live round jammed down into the magazine so badly that I needed to pry it open slightly to get it back out However I also touched off around 300 rounds of federal bulk out of the MKII that day without a hitch. I decided to burn off the 333 with the cooey, which it happily ate up and asked for more. I'll definiately be stocking up on the 333 as my go-to for the cooey, and keep searching for good deals on federal bulk. Also broke out my MKII's twin, a 93R17 for the first time since I installed the new bipod. Starting with a clean barell, my second 5-shot group at 100 yards went well sub-MOA which I have been finding difficult in the past due to poor rests. Nice to see that that .17 can shoot afterall.

I hate this one. Gave me nothing but problems in my 597. It seemed that the flat nose would always get hung up on the edge of the the chamber.

:agree:
The Winchester is "OK" to feed in my 597 but I have serious accuracy issues with it. Way better performance in the Savage MK II.
So far, I've found that American Eagle 38gr will shoot best with both rifles. (Talking about bulk ammo...)

Dynapoints have perfomed well in most of my rifles, excellent in some even, accuracy-wise. I use them on paper mostly and shot maybe 5000 so far. Good quality amo for the price, but not the best for hunting.

I tried the Xperts this year and they were very reliable and accurate enough for hunting. What surprised me however is the amount of damage they make on game, the big point really opens good (I shoot varmint so I dont care about the damage). They remind me of the winchester powerpoints which I like a lot too. For the price they're tough to beat.

We use lots of them in our 10/22, but they aren't as accurate as dynapoints at 50 yards in my savage mk II FVT (bull barrel target).

They do jam up lots (stovepipe) when using the two 10/22 factory mags, but when I switched to butler creek 25 rounder steel lips (2 mags), the problem cleared up.

Who knows why. Who cares.

Price is important! :D In rimfire, anyhow . And so is terminal performance...we all like seeing "the damage"!

Well, I like to plink @ "loaded" soda cans, so I do care about the "terminals", anyhow....

Stovepiped my Marlin bolt.

Often?

I tried the Xpert in my 10/22 and MKIII and both had issues with FTF and FTE. I've since upgraded the extractor on the 10/22 so maybe it would work a bit better. I use the Dynapoints most often (~ 8k in stock :) ) in all my .22's and they seem to work well. I started a thread on how well they shot compared to other brands I had on hand at the time.

Win = Crap
Buy Federal

:agree: Because of this thread I decided to try their ammo again. I picked up a box of dynapoints=:puke:

They were a tad better than the xperts but not too much, every other mag had at least 1 FTF and every mag had 3 FTE:jerkit:

I'm going to the range tomorrow and I'm bringing my trusty federals/AE ammo:D

I was given a box of remy 'game load' rounds.... Might try them out too;)

I also noticed the winchesters were EXTREMELY sooty (even for .22s).

i bought a box of the experts today and wasnt too impressed. i had atleast 3 misfires per mag im my cooey. not any better than the win 333 i bought the other day but atleast i didt go through 8 misfires in a row like the 333. im going to stick with federal for now on.

I just went and picked up another bulk box of federal champions (525 rounds). heading to the range tomorrow and I'll post the results.

On another note, someone gave me a box of remy game loads. I took these to the range yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised! VERY clear burning and good accuracy as well!. I believe these are remy golden bullets with a hollow point design (they even are gold covered) so I'm guessing they would be 36 gr instead of 40gr like the goldens. nI ran them in the cooey 64 with good results and the buckmark ate them up like candy, these will likely be my hunting round for the cooey, good snap and velocity, and very clean so it doesn't gum up the action, the champs will be the plinking round for it on range days.

on a side note, both guns will eat AE ammo as well, the buckmark all day and the cooey about 250-350 before it gets too dirty to be reliable for a 2nd followup shot (starts getting numerous stovepipes).

DW ( sorry for getting some what off topic)

That many miss-fire with different kind of ammunition... maybe something is wrong with the cooey? worn out firing pin, peen chamber, weak firing pin spring...
