A friend of mine recently purchased a rifle and he was hoping to find out what these markings are. It is built on a Sako action in .308 and is highly modified, the barrell reminds me of something on a tank- it's huge. Supposeively it was built by a Maritime gunsmith (possibly NB) years ago. It is a beautiful piece of work. The stamp on the barrell looks like this:
M C M

.308

Don't know if this is a barrell maker stamp, gunsmith or what. The "MCM" is actually in a semi-circle. I am hoping sometime to get some pics of this rifle, it is really nice, and if I were to ever build a stock, I would seriously consider modeling it after this one. Appreciate any input.

MCM is the trademark of precision 30 cal barrel maker and gunsmith Mick (Malcolm) McPhee from Kamloops BC

Here is one of his stamps

Thanks guys, that is the logo on my friends barrell. He was curious about the history of the rifle. Now just to find out who built it! Thanks again!

It was Mick himself as he does not like to sell barrel blanks "...to hacks that are going to screw-up his hard work". If he makes a barrel, he likes to chamber and install it. He puts his mark on all barrel he installs whether it was his or someone else's. Mick installed the barrel for sure.

Likely he did build the rifle then. I will pass this on to my friend. I will take some pics of it sometime when I am over for a visit. The stock on this rifle is cool too. I am not sure if it is handmade or not. It has an adjuatable cheek piece, wide flat bottomed fore-end with a groove cut in it for a rail, a hand stop I think? The bedding is very professionally done, and overall one quick glance at this rifle will tell you it definitely was a pro who built it.
