The .22x64 bullet was travelling approximately 1400 fps faster at impact. The white tail buck I shot with a .257 Wby and 75gr A launched at just under 4000fps had very little bloodshot meat. It looked like an auger had bored a hole through the deer behind the shoulder. It was very interesting.

Jeez Sealhunter, you think you're confused. What about me? I shot a 270 Win. and in the last week and a half here I have learned;
1. Its not a Kewl or cool caliber, and
2. that is not near flat or fast enough.

I am leaving for deer camp in 5 days and have no other rifle to take. I also do not have the budget to go and purchase one that is cooler or shoots faster or flatter or whatever. What do you think I should do?

Not real sure on that one. Have you reviewed the data sheets?
I like to tape my Baliistic table onto the stock for quick reference
I'm trying something new this year as well. I'm going to use liquid paper and put 7mm Magnum/375 H&H on the barrel of my 30/30. Hopefully the deer see it, so they realize what calibre has turned them into sausage.

Send a pm to Gatehouse and see if you can borrow his spear!!:D

Well you are correct that it's 15% more energy in the charts you posted but would that make any difference with a well-placed bullet......I'd have to say no as well. Know personally of a few grizz taken with a .270 and they seemed plenty dead!

Personally I'd pick a .300+ if it was me....oh ya, it is me but I wouldn't feel undergunned with the .270 or 7mm if a good shot presented itself either.

FWIW the Worlds Record grizzly was killed with a .270Win. by Roger Pentecost, Dean R., B.C.

The bear taken by Mr.Pentecost is no longer the world record grizzly currently listed by Boone&Crocket. And the fact that a person called Bella Twin killed a grizzly that exceeds the minimum score for B&C with a .22 rimfire proves that killing a record book animal proves little about a cartridges suitability for that species.

If you decided before you posted, this thread is just ballistic masturbation isn't it? - dan

Not really...

Trying to prove a point...

There is a difference between the .270 and 7mm Rem Mag.

The 7mm has +500 ft. lbs of energy at the muzzle.

If the .270 Win.(based on 30-06) is equal to the task of taking Alaska-Yukon Moose and Grizzly then using that SAME theory that SOOOOO MANY on here subscribe to ANY cartridge over and above 30-06 case capacity offers NOTHING to the hunter, other than a BIG BANG and more recoil.

So all the guys out there with 7mm Mags, 300 Win Mags, 7mm STWs, Weatherbys Mags, Dakota Mags, Lazzeroni Mags, RUM, 350 Mags etc. etc etc. are OVER-GUNNED!

I think the point is, "what God damn difference does it make what calibre someone else is using to kill a bear or moose as long as they are doing it humanely" who gives a Goddamn who uses a 7mm mag and why?

Jumping Jesus on a pogostick, If it costs me 15 dollars to fire one shell cause it's a powder burner, etc etc. who cares???

Don't worry about what others are using and why,

Why does garry drive an F150 and I drive a sprint and get to same place.

Why does molly eat vegetable, I drink V8?

Why does shawn have a 5 beroom house, but only 2 kids?

Why does Mary use garlic powder, I always use fresh?

Why does Tom use zest, I use Irish spring?

Why does steve get subway, I eat quiznos?

Why does Sarah use pads, I use tampons?????

Yeah, you are reading too much into this, and cherry picking your points to argument. Your argument is liek that tired old standby that goes something liek this: A .338 WM is almsot the = of a .375 H&H, so it's jsut as good, and the .300 WM is almost the same as the 338, and the 7RM is the same as the 300 WM...etc etc until you are down to using the 22 Hornet on anything...

With good bullets, 90% of hunters wont' notice the difference in performance on game between the 270/280/3006/7RM/300WM ....That is becuase most hunters shoot game around 150 yards, and if they put a bullet inthe rigth place, the animal dies.

Higher velocity cartridges make shooting longer distances easier, sometimes. Some hunters shoot very long ranges and the extra velocity can make a difference then.

Please tell us: What do you think that extra 500 ft/lbs of energy is going to do to a moose at 150 yards? Knock it over?

Judging by your Avatar...your OVER-Gunned.

You do NOT need that .375 Ruger for ANYTHING in B.C.

A 30-06, 8mm-06., .35 Whelen, or .375 Hawk would be plenty for all game in B.C.

Just over-kill...or can the animal tell the difference???

Seems to me like your arguing for one side of the story AGAINST me...but sitting back with a BIG BELLOWING .375 Ruger that is neither required or has ANY advantage over a trusty 30-06 or 35 Whelen. Unless were talking about paper and NOT real world.

Any Moose, Bear or Elk in B.C would NOT be able to tell the difference if it were hit with a 35 Whelen or 375 Ruger. Dead after all is Dead!

So WHY do you have the .375 Ruger anyways...there HAS to be a reason???

Or were you naive enough to buy a rifle simply on some marketing gimmick?
