VZ58: Optics, sights & mounts. update sept

Good thread.

my hats off to you and curtton for all you've done:cheers:

without you two, and all the informational posts about the cz858, i probably wouldn't have even thought to buy one, but i'm sure glad i did:)

normally its hard to narrow down a select forum to the 1 or 2 top guys but with red rifles, you guys are the man, er, men:confused::dancingbanana:

well, after studiously examining curtton's tutorial on "cutting the bridge", i plunged in head first with the dremel.

it turned out to be a fairly simple procedure, and if i did it again, i'm sure i could have made it cleaner, but function over form wins the day:)

at left is the used spare i bought from wolverine (just in case i botched it) that i modified, and at right is my factory original clad in a fab defense handguard.

thanks ..... also good work .

Holy crap, this thread is an incredible resource. This is the END ALL, BE ALL of VZ58/CZ85 mounting options.

I have the SVD side mount bracket (from Belarus) but I am still at a loss as to how to mount it to the receiver. There was a thread that showed how you had to buy another piece and weld it or something, that info needs to be added to this thread as well.

the info is on section 4.

its very simple , when you buy a mount from goodoptics.com , you also should order a rail but the rail is too skinny to tap to the side of the receiver so you need to add a plate (or a bracket) thick enuff to tap from the inside of receiver .

the installation of a side mounts for scope and red dot are the same , the scope has longer bracket and the red dot has shorter bracket , the shorter bracket is mount further back below the top cover .

regarding the weld, they welded the rail to the bracket instead of tapping like i did .

i cant wait .

[/IMG]Let me know what you all think? Hopefully I've posted these pictures right. The front mount is a m14 reddot mount with a brass spacer lining. Hold's zero 100%, good for reddot's. The receiver side mount required drilling and tapping.Absolute pain in the a-s to make, getting all the angles right so that the rounds would eject properly, gun can be field stripped without removing the mount and the iron sights can also be used.Hold's zero 100%, rock solid.

Where do you guys get the 1005 real wood furniture from? I am looking for real walnut setup for my CZ.

Also, what about the 5 rnd shorty-mags?

Thanks.

Looks cool.

Try some large holes in the side plate.
It will lighten the weight and the appearance.
(also try hitting the "enter" button between pics,
since you want them stacked, not linear).

Remember that the bipod on the barrel
will not give you the best shot placement consistency.

Yeh, I was thinking about making some relief cuts into the side mount. I started out with 3/8" aluminum angle. Above where the mount fits into the groove the thinkness is about .23". I'm a little leary of taking too much material away for fear of weaking the mount. It's a proto type made in two pieces, picatinny rail and aluminum angle. A one piece mount would be alot more solid. Let's see if I can find a machine shop that would be interested in producing some more.

looks nice from the right side.
i pretty well agree with drl . i find moving the bipod closer to the gas block does a better job . does the wrap on the folder work for you? i used plastic , very comfy.

The folding stock is gonna go into retirement once my adapter comes in for an adjustable CAA stock, looks good but not very practical for accuracy. I will however play around with the bipod idea.

Range Report

This is palinak's new rail. Aluminum billet. 4 rails.
Top rail is a see-thru with U-channel for the iron sights.
(I don't guarantee the pix will stay that way,
since they are on his server).

Just tested Palinak's new rail
FAR SUPERIOR to the old one {xept the extra weight}
I put a 2 power leupold on it and shot 1/4 to 1/2 inch at a hundred (cold barrel) ALL DAY ! (3 RD GROUPS)
5 round groups were 1 inch at a hundred all day.
POI did not shift hot barrel or cold barrel ! - [yes the groups did get larger when the barrel was hot]
Ammo was wolf target and norinco non corrosive -{ both ammos shot the same tightness - norinco 2 inches lower }
I think I will use the new top end with the old plastic bottom end and save the weight. Pics to follow ---:):):):)

Told him exactly the same thing at the range !

• Unique lever locking mechanism to allow a quick detachable top half for easy cleaning.

paul is there a close up pic of the unique locking mechanism ?

chopper 1 , could you post some close up pics of the locking mechanism (not mounted on rfile).

I may have asked this before but can you do a repeat zero test for before and after cleaning? In other words at the range remove the mount and replace between groupings and see what kind of difference you get if any at all.

Yes, I also be interested knowing how well it retains zero after removal / replacement for cleaning.
