Training Interest?

Yup. It is all in the articulation to management.

Last year I did a business case and got work to pay for a pistol course(as well as the travel and accommodations) at Blackwater for myself and a co-worker.
Unfortunately, my duties use the pistol as a primary, so getting work to pay for rifle courses would be a non-starter.

Having said that, I was planning more trips south to get training on my own dime. And with the option of having options up here, I know where I will be spending my money.

Support local talent folks.

Right now we set up several class types.
Intro Classes classes are designed to give a firearm owner with only rudimentary knowledge of firearms the ability to safely use a firearm. Going over the skills needed to take the firearm from the box to the range. Starting with safety and safe rules for gun handling and beyond. Going over the basics of maintenance, and beginning shooting aspects –for pistol the grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger pull zeroing, loading and unloading, cleaning malfunctions and stoppages, as well holster usage in a static environment (draw/re-holster etc), and for rifle cleaning, loading and unloading and stoppages and malfunctions and troubleshooting, theory of the group, zeroing and basic rifle marksmanshipThen into Basic and Intermediate classes, and specific "Signature" classes
Trying to work for local organizers to setup locations and dates
Once I get back from the honeymoon tomorrow, SMC Consulting (Shoot, Move Communicate) will be going live - with a website - and paying GT for doing stuff here.

I feel all alone out here in NS where there no cool shooting training :(.

Well one could suggest Gagetown... nice facility near by... *hint*

KevinB - Where do fat guys with shotguns fit into this equation, especially ones without slings, pistoleros, and bodyarmour?

I've been speaking to BigRed. We have talked about doing some Training classes. I notice people have been signing up in droves for a number of companies that are offering training. Having been asked previously to do some teaching in Canada, I am conducting some limited market research of CGN'ers.

I generally avoid training in Canada (outside of when I was in the Army) due to the generally stupid Firearms laws in Canada. However while I still feel it is stupid for soldiers and police to train with neutered mags etc, it does make sence for civilians.

And with a 5rd carbine mag - it would make for some really unusual CQB drills - then I thought of the positives, which would force the student to AIM, (the whole aim more shoot less concept we have been trying to stress over the last two years) .

Neither John (BigRed) or I are currently setup as a Firearms Business - so this would either be in conjunction with a mature company in Canada (and board sponsor), or a longer term thought. In the last 4 years we have each spent the majority of our time in Iraq or Afghanistan, filling the leave blocks with some rather interesting training classes.

I am more interested in the sort of training people may find interesting. While I would love to offer Force on Force Sims training - Simunition is not civilian friendly.

As well we are hoping to leverage Larry Vickers into coming up for some classes and a 1911 pistolsmithing class.

No, my super firearm skills are above that of you, John and Larry Vickers. Skills I acquired over years spent in the Army's super secret 10th amphibious mountain division. I don't need your lowly training:D;)

Yeah I'd definitly be in! I think you, big red and larry vicker have some very interesting experience and insight to share, and I would definitly want to be privy to it.

I'd prefer if classes we offered in Ottawa or even quebec(yeah rigght, thx CFO:rolleyes: ), but i'd be willing to travel west or south for some good training

At this time we have no plans for a shotgun only course. Our view is that the shotgun is a specialty tool that excels at breaching and less lethal. Neither fit into an open enrollment course.

I am going to try to armbar Larry and Ken next week into committing to something for next year.

Ken Hackathorn is retiring, but we may be able to get him up in the warmer months for a pistol class. LAV schedule is pretty full, but for some reason he seems to like Big Red and I - and said he was open to a 1911 Pistol Smith class - and a pistol class too.

Stay tuned

Right now the biggest issue is booking ranges and classrooms.

Will be in Ottawa tomorrow and Petawawa on the weekend to talk to some folk about this as well.

How have I missed this thread?

I'm in.

If there is a class at abbostford f and g, I might have some spare room at Casa Del Frenchie for out of towners.
