Training Interest?

Glad to hear that you'll get to Ontariariario.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't travel west for this, but I calculate that each mile out of province costs about 2 rounds.
Regards,
John

We need an indoor range in Ont for some stuff.

It gets so Cold in Canada, that I dont think outdoor ranges are viable in the winter. Secondly training value is degraded when the students (and staff) are miserable.

You've never been to Victoria, BC hugh?:D. If you can catch a day when it isn't raining you generally won't have a problem with it being too cold, any time of the year. I think we had two days of snow last year, it's a hard life....;). It's also only an 1.5 hr ferry ride from Van.

What do you mean it gets cold? I think you spent too much time over in the sand box:D

Well Todd Green said Slavex and the Abby guys where such nice hosts, it may be a good spot to start (if anyone sees Rob around have him phone me please)
you could also pm RomeoSierra or JulietLima about the Abby range if you can't get in touch with Slavex.

I've been away from CGN, for the most part, for waaaay to long a period of time. Work has been getting in the way of my fun again!

That said, I just logged on tonight while dealing with a bout of insomnia to check things out and saw this thread.

I'd road trip to BC or Alberta to take part in something like this. Would love to hear more on the details as they get worked out.

Thanks for the offer KevinB and Big Red...great idea!

The challenge is likely going to be the CFO's.

When we sat down with members of the Ontario CFO (2 to 3 years ago) to discuss offering tactical training courses for civilian participation we ran into a brick wall. They were quite opposed to the idea of offering any kind of "real world" or "tactical" training to civilians. It was as if we were suggesting that we were going to train cop-killers... that was the reaction we got.

Their "official" position was that these did not constitute "legal uses" for firearms in Canada and therefore the training did not conform to what they believed was an "approved purpose" under any Business Firearms License.

I can't answer for other provinces but the main hurdle in Ontario would (in my opinion) be the CFO. If they will approve the course (course materials) then getting a range to host shouldn't be that difficult... but without the CFO's approval the gun club won't be able to host it without risking the loss of the operating approval.

I'd be happy to help sponsor the event and arrange to have it held at Barrie Gun Club... but would need you to get the CFO to first "approve" the course (and instructors) that you wish to present. You get that approval from CFO and we'll help get the range facility.

Say that fortunately in the USA self defense is valued and LEGAL. Many Canadian citizens would like self defense training before they ever go down to the USA so that in the case they need to use it they can.

I didn't realize that you would have to consult the CFO's office to ask permission to host a training session. I never knew they were the official "training" governing body in any province!

I really don't believe that they should have much say in this. If you are using the range correctly in the format they approved i.e. action shooting, what is there to say?

Just sell "IDPA training."

FYI Legal opinion is that the courses are fine, as long as everything is kept within the confines that is allowed on the range.

Ontario and Quebec are really the only places that seem to have some concerns that they further need to restrict and control legal firearms usage.
