I had a previous thread where I created a barrel mount... although functional, it was kinda ugly.

Next I ordered the 'Leapers Tri-Rail' thinking it would fit... no dice. The barrel on the CZ/VZ's is too thin (the kit was intended for AR's)

I stopped by DLASK and told Jo the problem (i.e. doesn't fit the barrel).

Jo is big into mass manufacture and I thought for sure I'd be turned away at the door... but being the gentleman that he is, not only did he make me a correct spacer, but he improved the fit by shortening one rail.

Looks like it was made for the rifle ;) Whatch'all think?

Now, what would be nice is if Dlask began making a barrel mount like that one but with optional bolt-on rails and integral protective shroud or ears on each side of the reflex sight.
Torx fasteners, of course and machined out of steel with a baked-on powder finish to match the original blue-grey or flat black...
I, for one, would also love to see such a mount specifically made to allow co-witness with a Kobra sight.
And sell for $60.00 a piece...;)

LOL... Hey, I modded the handguard (I wanted to lose the rail so I took a hacksaw, file, then wet/dry sandpaper to it).

It would be quite hard to get that made for $60 in Canada and still make money on it. Too much re-positioning of the part for machining processes. China maybe, but then you are talking huge quantity. You would probably be looking at more like $120 retail for something like that.

Edt: Question: What keeps it from spinning round on the barrel? Just friction? Ie: If you bashed the side of the scope hard is there potential for it to spin around the barrel?

Yeah, not to mention there is no way of knowing if *YOUR* red dot will co-witness.

It's pretty much trial and error for now by the end users.

At least you guys know what rail works with the FASTFIRE and the CZ-858 now ;)

Yes, it is just friction... there is an aluminum spacer wrapping the barrel which the mount just fits, then the mount is positioned and as soon as you start to tighten the screws it locks up (same idea as a mountain bike seat).
If it took a really good "wack" (like a big wipe out on a mountain bike - my comparison) I suppose it could move, but there is the beauty of irons co-witnessing with the red-dot... it's like a safety check ;)

FWIW I think this is much better then any of the UHG mounts I've seen. Good on you guys for thinking outside the box. Nice mod to the UHG as well.

Should not be a big problem for Dlask to manufacture a basic clamp with a flat mating surface on which you could bolt a dedicated mounting module for a given model of sight (OKO, Docter, Kobra, etc...).
This would allow co-witnessing with many sighting units just by changing the adaptor plate.

P-S: I would gladly pay $150.00 for one. ;);)
 
Nice job! The only thing I don't like about the cz is the stock, grip and handguard cosmetics. Your's is a thing of beauty. I specifically like the iron sight retention. I always keep them operational, never know when glass and circuit will let you down. Well done.

This one is probably a non-restricted length. There is also a shorter barreled model.

Basically the VZ's are restricted in original barrel length (meaning they have all the rules that handguns in Canada have in terms of where we can shoot them = To and From approved ranges only... sucks!)

"Most" semi-auto rifles with barrels longer than 18.5" can be taken anywhere a shotgun or bolt action rifle can go (the way it should be for handguns!)
