awesome find... i found an old cooey .22 in the ceiling of our previous cottage, its pretty rusted like yours but the whole bolt assembly is gone, just a trigger is left. was a nice paper weight

I also found an old cooey single shot a few years ago in the barn as well. Looked as rough as yours but I cleaned it up and she works perfectly and shoots straight.

I tink it tiz a model 71 Mauser(single shot)....If it was a repeater it would be a 71/84.OR it could be a lump of cow s**t formed to look like a gun by the animals in the barn who are planning a coup d'etate on the farmer ( as out lined in the Animal Farm hand book...by the underground resistance)

Judging by the rear site I would say you appear to have a German Model 71 Carbine which should be chambered in 11X60mm. The carbine was adopted in 1876 and issues to German dragoons, hussars and lancers (in 1884 also issued to cuirassiers) to replace their Chassepot Carbines. If the barrel is 20" then she still has the original length barrel (and is not cut down). This rifle would have originally has wood all the way down to the muzzle fastened by a nose cap.

It is a model 71, I cleaned up a mod 71 on the action so you guys nailed it on the noise. Don't suppose there would be anywhere to find the bolt face for it?

the Cooey certainly looks like it should have a full length wood and the rear peepsight screams Model 82. Several other model bolts do fit it. Like a 750 and 75, 39 etc.
