I see that TopGunSupply (in the U.S., the place that always seems to be on the cutting edge of everything new from SIG) is now listing two different kinds of SIG P220's... chambered in.... .22LR... WOW! :runaway:

in DA/SA:
http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sau...justable-sights-da-sa-converts-to-.45acp.html

and in SAO: (note that this one has a beavertail as well... plus the 1911-style safety of course)
http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sau...adjustable-sights-sao-converts-to-.45acp.html

And you get a coupon to buy a .45 auto slide/barrel assembly (in the U.S. anyway, not sure how easy that will be to pull off for Canadian customers).

It is obviously just the conversion kit being mated up to 220 frames in the factory... but... so what.

Can some of you distributors/retailers check into whether you can get these please? I think it is a "neat" idea. I've been thinking about getting the 106mm P229 conversion kit when it becomes available... but maybe a stand-alone 220 in .22LR is a better idea??? It looks like it will be more than a Mosquito, but less than any other new SIG - and it should put a Mosquito to shame... trigger, feel, handling, and looks.

How many other guys would be interested in one of these?

Edit: if you look at this page, the 220 conversion mags look quite a bit different than the 226 mags. Also... I suppose we can deduce from this that... the 226 kits shipped out first... now the 220 kits (and guns have shipped)... and the 229 kits will be last (and probably Canadian barrelled 229 last of all... I'm not sure how much longer I want to wait to try one of these SIG conversions. I keep wanting to order the 226 kit... and then I think, "That is dumb... you only have 229 and 239... you'll have to buy a whole other gun to put it on." Hence my interest in this 220 .22LR complete gun).

Another thing... not worth starting a new thread on but.... DROOL!! An all steel 229! Damn, I hope we can get these as well.

Just in case anyone is wondering... the "Stainless Elites" are just stainless slides with alloy frames finisshed to look sort of like stainless. This is hard to see on the official SIG website, but TopGunSupply takes all their own pictures, and you can definiately see the difference between slide and frame on the elite models in these pics.

Our first shipment of P220R-22-BAS-SAO is on the way and should be here in the next week or two.

We expect the P226 and P229 versions to be shipping before Christmas and we're taking orders for those now as well.

I would be interested in a 226 version one. I have been wanting a good looking .22 pistol and the P22 and Mosquito just seem to have too many problems.

what makes you think this one will be any better :p

Well the Mosquito is 90% in size when compared to a 226. Nothing better than a full sized .22lr pistol. Either way, I'm sure I'll be happy with the Mosquito but my preference would be to have a .22lr on a full sized pistol especially a 220 frame. With that said, I could always have ordered a .22lr slide for my .45 ACP P220 but it's also my preference is to have a dedicated pistol. Hmmmm....decisions, decisions...

i think its a great idea, i may look into one myself, esp, since the way the market is going $$$ wise cheaper ammo cheaper gun in $$ not quality.

and always room for upgrading.

OK, so I just started shooting 9mm. I also tried a Ruger Mk III .22 and while it was a nice gun to shoot it left me thinking "so what?" after the kick of the 9mm.

Now I gather that the lesser kick is attractive to some but for someone like me that would like to feel a bit more of the kick to better simulate the larger calibers and use it as a cheap practice gun I would like to see these .22 versions made from anodized aluminium slides and fancy plastic frames so they are lighter to hold and so that they actually kick a little more than a full sized steel gun running with .22's such as this P226 version or something like the CZ with the .22 kit.

Am I totally alone in this concept? Or am I missing the point? It doesn't need to fully duplicate the harder kick but a LITTLE more than the Ruger Mark III would not be totally out of place for many or most of us I would think. It would still be a nice plinker but it would act a little more like the "big ones".

the kick wouldnt be big no matter what you do, the physics just arent there

the point of the .22 in the exact same gun as your other one is so that you are used to the sites, how to hold it, ect but cheaper to shoot for those of us who cant afford 9mm all the time

Don't get me wrong. I still think it's a great idea and a great way to practice for peanuts. I guess I'm not sure which is better yet. To practice to get used to the kick or to just practice to ignore the kick.

I'm also looking at a 22 rifle and revolver for the .22 action games and some general plinking here and there.

Hmm.... thanks for the response everyone... and thanks Mark for bringing these in as soon as they come available.

Now I have to decide which one to get. I'm leaning toward the 220 SAO, as I have been interested in that .45ACP model since they introduced it.... but I am an absolute nut for the 229... (I have two 9mm 229s) and .40S&W + .22LR combo sounds good too.

The main thing though is... I need a .22 pistol. I used to have a Walther P22 and a SIG Mosquito. Sold the Mosquito. Walther slide crack and I sold off the parts for scrap (most of it as a restricted transfer). Now I just use my girlfriend's .22LR Beretta conversion kit... which is great.

P220 SAO comes in first... and that is a factor to consider as well.... agh! which one.... :runaway:
