So MD Charlton said they finally swapped the barrel after the THIRD trip back to their depot. Pistol came back - still a jammomatic with FTE without even finishing one mag. Actually it is WORSE then before. So buddy and I got clever , we put the supposedly new barrel into his working M&P. Instantly it turns into a jamming machine.

That's 11 months of merry-go-around between me and the depot. And guess what S&W said ..........sorry, you are in Canada, WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU! I told them if they don't fix it I will send it to police for destruction....."oh don't do it....Send it to another warranty center and see what they said." RIGHT BECAUSE S&W is not paying for my time and shippinbg

That is , after I spent over 100 bucks of shipping the darn thing three times over 11 months. I might as well buy a new barrel.....! :slap:

BLAH!

Do not buy a M&P9mm - because if they are screwy, they cannot be fixed! S&W will just hang your dry.

Am I pissed. Not really. I know why I buy Japnese cars....:p THis thing is pathetic.

Oh, btw, at least I got to practise IA drills a lot with M&P, which I am rusty because I never had to do any with Glocks and USP.

Are you serious??? Smith and Wesson should understand that you are the press as far as Canada goes. You being the Admin of CGN, with 34000+ subscribers! If they don't stand up and fix the problem why would any Canadian want to buy their crap. I have to say, that I have an MP9 and it has never failed me(knock on wood)yet. BUT, if it did, I would expect them to back up their product. If it were myself, I would cut it into pieces and send it to Glock as their next Campaign Ad! Following that I would send an email to S&W letting them know what I had done!! LOL!! Where I work we have ordered thousands of the M&P40's for our people. I hope they treat us better or they might as well go "Chapter 11" with GM, Ford and Chrysler!!

CHEERS!!!

I'm surprised also that Smith would hang you out dry like that. I thought they were a more professional than that! I only own one handgun & thats a Glock of course, but I thought that the Austrians would pull this sort of crap before Smith & Wesson. Guess I'm wrong. For the amount of guns they produce I would think that they would at least get the Canadan distributor to replace it a no cost if they couldn't fix it for the third time. A lemon is a lemon & it happens from time to time. But you would think that they would fix it with replacement for the P.R. alone. Not much cost to them, but with bad mouthing it could cost them a lot more. Come on S&W show some class!
Thanks for the heads up...

I had the same problem with Springfield and my XD9... (major problems with a brand new gun and no interest in dealing with it) It appears to me that as long as they have your money they really dont care after that... I think it has to do with the CANADIAN factor... Well you are in a foreign country... (not the USA) .. and we have your money now.. so up yours foreign nationals...

Pretty much. Basically in Canada today you should accept the fact that most factory warranties mean nothing. There are exceptions, but either they won't fix it here, or they want you to send it to QC for months where they won't fix it. I've had good work out of Murray's shop on S&Ws in the past, so I don't think he's screwing anyone here. Maybe it's just a "Monday" gun. FWIW - dan

Why would S&W not want the gun to be destroyed? Just outta curiousity, bad PR?
My guess is that it does not look good for large future law enforcement contracts for S&W when faulty M&P's are being chopped up instead of warrantied. Another reason to go Glock.

Mine has been 100% great. Sorry you got a bum gun.
I will purchase a Glock within the next year, it'll probably be a lemon( knowing my luck ) and I will post about it.

Even a lemon Glock will run.;)

Sorry about your crappy luck with the M&P - sounds like my XD experience.
I agree with dan belisle, this is an issue with being on the wrong side of a border as much as it is about a N/S pistol.

Where is their warranty depot in Canada?
MD Charlton in BC and Wortners in Ontario. Both are quite reputable gunsmiths. However, it seems that MD Carlton dropped the ball here, as they obviously did not test the gun to ensure it worked properly before sending it back.

Greentips, you said that the barrel turned your buddy's working gun into a jammomatic. Have you tired putting his barrel into your gun? In any event, I would recommend one more attempt at going through the warranty. Give Mr. Wortner (I forgot his first name) a call, explain the situation and see what he says. I met him personally when I drove over to his shop to drop off my 686 revolver for warranty work, and he seemed like a very straight up guy.

Luckily I did not end up buying one. Tried it, it felt alright. But this kind of customer service is unacceptable. They have been n business long enough to know the concept of R&R (repeat and referral). What a dumb move, it does not cost them much for the gun to begin with. No more m&p or s&w. Don't want to risk it.

I won't doubt the professionalism of MD Charlton, but lemons like this is a nightmare to make a diagnosis. Last time I did this run-around was 9 or 10 years ago with Bushmaster.

Trust me - we had swapped everything to do the diagnosis - that is done by a guy with an engineering degree and a programming dude. Lots of LOGIC were applied to the diagnosis. :p Perhaps we can write a M&P diagnostic manual for S&W. :p

I have a quick chat with Wortner. They cannot really say anything other than "we will take a look at it". which I completely understood and won't expect more than that. But I am going to spend yet another 25 dollars for another "assessment'? Convince me a fourth try will make a difference if 3 tries had already failed!

They have used enough of my time and money to "fix" a problem they generated with their piss poor QC. I may as well strip the darn thing of every single components and have the receiver destroyed, and make a scene out of it ! this thing had cost me over over 800 bucks already + gas and testing ammo.

And I am sure MD Charlton had pumped out enough billing to S&W. On top of my expense, they could have given me a new pistol.

wow, sorry to hear it was from S&W.

I had the same experience way way back on an AMT 1911. Ended up giving the thing away cause I don't sell crap. They lost more business from my -'ve advertising (& from others I am sure) than if they would have fixed the thing to begin with. Anyways, where is AMT today???

Where will S&W be if they keep this sh*t up? They will see, because shooters have low tolerance for this type of BS.

I actually was looking at the M&P|XD but will now stick w my G17 which works like a Timex.

on-ca
