M&P 9mm - Solution is being offered by S&W

FWIW:

I hate hearing that Smith & Wesson Customer Service is so bad to it's customers N. of the border as I believe their customer service to be excellent to customers here in the U.S.

I know it has for me.

I've been a big fan of 3rd generation Smith pistols ever since I bought my first one (3913) in 1995. One of the details I consider when buying a new firearm is if the parent company backs the product or not, and S&W has a lifetime warranty on their pistols.

This past January I bought a new Walther PPS. I had owned Walthers in the past (P99/P99c) and they were excellent pistols. The new extremely THIN PPS was designed to replace the aging 32/380cal. PPK for concealed carry but in 9mm. S&W is the importer, and does the warranty work for Walther on the PPS pistol. (one year warranty)

My PPS was very early series (14XX) and worked fine for approximately 200 rounds then developed ejector problems. I called S&W CS and they sent me a return authorization which enabled me to ship the PPS back to them via UPS at no cost. (In fact the pistol was picked up at my home by UPS).

The pistol came back to me in roughly two weeks, but the ejector problem had not been fixed.. I called S&W CS again and they sent me another RA and again UPS came to my door and picked up the defective PPS.

I called S&W CS and told them my PPS was on it's way back to S&W for warranty repair and to please either FIX it right, or send me a new replacement.

Several weeks later UPS brought me a NIB replacement PPS.

Recently S&W has discontinued the entire line of 3rd generation pistols and apparently have placed their bets on the new MP liine of plastic pistols. Because of this I went on a buying tear and bought a NIB 5906/6906/3913LS/CS9. All of these pistols have a lifetime warranty, and the prices were reduced because they had been discontinued. (For example the all steel, full size 15rd 5906 retailed for over $700 (US), and I bought it from CDNN for $399.99.

I put a set of Crimson Trace Lasergrips on the 5906 and now that pistol has become my "home defense" (give me time to get to the 12ga. pump riot gun) choice. It replaced the excellent P99/AS. Nothing wrong with the Walther, but I'm a senior citizen and with declining vision and shaky hands I enjoy having a laser equipped pistol when possible.

I'd quit posting here last year because the only pistols I was buying were not available for purchase in Canada, and some folks took offense at my posting threads on firearms not available to the average gun buyer. My preferences were for compact 9's, and mouseguns, neither of which apparently are legal for you folks to own.

But as I understand it you can own the full size 5906, and to anyone who enjoys the traditional TDA trigger, superior reliability and a very good bargain, I recommend you consider the all steel S&W 5906.

I have nothing against plastic guns, as I've owned Glocks and Walthers, but just something comforting about the heft and "feel" of the 3rd generation Smith & Wesson 5906.

Just personal opinion, no offense intended to those firearm lovers North of the border.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

P.S. Here's a photo of the 5906. Also a photo of the 6906 which is basically a double stack 3913 holding 12+1 rds. The 6906 will accept the 15rd mags of the 5906 and with the (shown) S&W "grip +2 adapter" looks factory, and works perfectly. I don't believe the 6906 is legal to own in Canada, not sure.

As a newb weeks away from buying his first gun this has made me take the m&p 9mm off my list. I was thiking of switching from my first choice to the cheaper m&p and then getting a .22 ruger as well...but ah well. I would rather learn now then when it is too late! I hate poor customer service and if this is how they treat someone with clout then how would they treat me???

Well I think it's great that this topic is being highlighted because we should be able to get factory repair service directly from the US in Canada!
I'm sure people in Alaska don't have these issues so what's the big deal about sending guns across the border for repairs?
Free Trade? I don't think so.....

I totally agree with the fact that you are getting the short end of the stick on this one Greentips, I would be pissed to. I think you have every right to to upset at the situation.

But, as the owner of the biggest and best Canadian gun forum, I would think you could have taken a different approach other than smearing the situation all over the homepage of CGN and then again in the Pistol and Revolver section. That is my only complaint. And it it a small one, and by no means am I trying to start a war. I just think this thread in the Pistol and Revolver section is enough.

Cheers,

Giggidy

For as little as its worth

I found it disturbing to read the opening page
It looked like a tasteless smear campaine
If this had happened to me I might have been tempted to do the same
But I hope not

My wife has 2 M&Ps than both work flawlessly

Sorry to hear about your problems. I do think your response is a little over kill. I could see if a group of people on here had these problems, but it is only 1 pistol. I do believe they have a great reputation as a new pistol.
Didn't Blueline rank them higher than a Glock?
Anyway, my M&P is awesome:)

MD Charlton: I had a model 29 that the nose bushing was getting worn out. I took it to a local smith and he gave it the once over and basically said to send it to Charlton and they will replace it with an oversize one, other than that the revolver is in good working order. I send it to them and lo and behold it is a POS and not worth working on. I finally convinced them to replace the nose bushing with an oversize one (which at first they said there is no such thing). Well 2 months later I get the revolver back and holy cow is this my pistol? I actually had to look at my registration to make sure that this one that they returned was the same one that I sent. I am not sure what monkey they had working on it but the bushing wasn't machined down, the face plate had huge file marks in it with not even a touch up bluing effort. When I tried the single and double action it was horrible. I took the side plate off and cleaned out all the fillings from inside, oiled it and put it back together and one problem solved. I then polished the huge scratches out of the plate and trued up the nose bushing and blued it. The revolver is still working great and by GOD I will never send anything back to them again. I have used Wortners in Ontario twice now and both times have been what one would expect from a smith. My two cents.

I want to second that about George Wortner's smithing. I have been extremely happy with his work and very reasonable rates besides.

He does all the smithing personally these days, so that he knows what goes out the door meets his standards.

No, we are not related.

Being the owner of the website, I to would have done what Greentips has done. Whether it was to rant or to inform, I don't see his actions as any discredit to me or or anyother member. Albeit some sponsors may be cheesed.
I don't know him personally but I haven't seen anyother site as well put together as this one & I don't think he'll be able to retire on the millions he makes off this site either. So lets cut him a little slack for taking liberties...

mp

Oh, btw, at least I got to practise IA drills a lot with M&P, which I am rusty because I never had to do any with Glocks and USP.

thanks for the info. I was planning on going to Al Simms this week to buy the M&P 9. But now I will go with my second choice Glock 17. Perfect timing on my part. Sorry to hear about your problem but glad that you posted it. Saving me future grief. The reason I shoot is to release my stress not get stressed by it.

Greentips,
Email me and I will send you the President, VP of Marketing, and advertising agencies emails and phone numbers. That should take care of it once you explain where you are writing from and your problem.

As I posted earlier, I'm with Greentips on this. S&W f@cked this opportunity to give Greentips excellent customer service and forced him (yes forced him) to do what he did.

He tried to get the pistol repaired three times for frig sakes guys!

If they had A)Fixed the Gun or B) when they couldn't fix the gun replaced it with a new one this wouldn't have happened.

They yanked his chain. Well he yanked back, HARD! Tough sh!t for those who have M&P's and hate to read the truth.

Good on ya Greentips:cheers:

"Glock is the way to go...Combat Proven unlike the M&P"

Which means what? MRE's are "Combat Proven" but I am not about to give up steak, nor am I interested in going into combat, hence by your logic, no Glock.

Besides, the coming of the M&P caused a drop in the price of Glock 17's which isn't all bad, is it?.:D

Take Care

Bob

2000+ rounds downrange, my first handgun, and in fact my first gun. Love my M&P, sorry yours is such a P.O.C. and S&W is being tough to deal with. The bright side is maybe they can learn from it where their Customer service failure is. I am not impressed with their "north of the 49th sucks to be you" policy, but my guns performance speaks for itself.
Good luck, keep at em, or they will assume they can ignore everyone until they give up. Perhaps letters to editors of major gun mags might work?

3000+ flawless rounds through my 9mm M&P. I've shot alot of handguns and my M&P is my favorite by far. I've seen some defective ones though. Sorry you got a POS.

One of our shooters sent her M&P off for warranty work with the FTE problem. It was more messed up when it came back. So back it went. The warranty depot in Canada is incompetent, IMO.

For that reason only, I'd never buy an M&P or any other new Smith and Wesson.
