At last, I have pics of the actual Canadian government purchased Tasco scope and mount on a military EAL rifle. (courtesy of Warren, writer of the EAL treatise and guru of EAL's)
First I've ever seen of one...anyone else?
Incredible how they drill right through the s/n...

I saw a rifle that had been drilled, and didn't buy it, thinking that the owner had done a bubba. Oh well, live and learn... It only took me two years to find another EAL after that!

I can top that...the one I turned down was unfired. It, too, had one of the holes drilled through the last digit of the serial number and if I recall also through one of the letters of the EAL. It was the military version too, with the little flip sights on the knoxform. The guy had the scope bracket at home, but figured he had a sale for it seperately.

Don't have a PH mount at hand, but it really looks like a Parker Hale commercial, for their sported No. 4s. Unless the mount set is a unique variant, or has specific markings, I would be very cautious about paying a premium.

It'd really be interesting to have a close-up look at the mount, to see what it is, who made it and look for military acceptance marks like C Broad Arrow or the CA Maple Leaf mark...hint hint...

This is interesting. So were they officially fitted to both patterns of EAL rifle while in government service as per the rifles shown in the photos? This is the first I've seen of the mounts, and have observed about a dozen or so EAL's over the years without any such mount-screw holes. Anyone have any idea if the mounting of the brackets was a specified part of the original purchase contract or a later modification, because I've never seen reference to modifying the rifles in any CFTO's? From my military days I find it strange that any authorised mods would include destroying a portion of the serial number ? Most supply people I knew would have a fit at the idea, as it was their only way of identifying specific rifles.

Interesting...another civilian pattern rifle.

Perhaps the scope setup sucked, screws working their way loose etc and thus the scopes got separated from the rifles...thus we never see them on rifles but see lots of holes.

Do you have the same scope mount and scope Karl?

I purchased an A-29 mount in the EE for this rifle. The screw holes may be welled out or the threads are possibly pulled a bit. I set the project aside for the time-being. Likely will need a redrill and tap to a larger size

actual Canadian government purchased Tasco scope and mount
... curious ... what year do you suppose the Canadian government bought those Tasco scopes for the EAL??

I wish I had a clue...

I was told that the scopes were bought and installed on rifles for the Canadian Rangers. Problem was, scopes don't work so well up north...
