Well if anyone has followed, I have had a few issues with the Sak guide vs the Sask Regs in clarity, but have found on the regs the info I needed.

I do have a question if anyone can answer.

If deer season is on, and I go coyote hunting in an area where the season is open, am i required to wear A clored vest jacket (hunter orange/Red etc etc etc)

Thanks

Seal, I'm not sure if you're looking for another showdown with SJ on here or what but it baffles me why you would come on here and ask legal questions like this when the answer is as simple as a call to your local SERM office. No matter what the answers you get here, they aren't going to hold up in court should you be charged as a result of receiving wrong information ........

I'm sure if you were out hunting coyotes with a big game rifle during an open big game season, without a license for the big game that the season is open for, you will be charged for hunting without a license, no matter what you are actually doing or say you are doing.

So if you were out hunting coyotes out of a big game season would you be charged for poaching because you had a "big game rifle"... not sure what constitutes a big game only rifle:confused: no matter what you said or were actually doing??

Slap & Jordan Id like to see where in the regs its states what you are saying?? Not trying to stir #### but please let me know where this is stated in the laws of Sask.

Sheephunter dont assume that all CO's know the full letter of the law. Best bet is to get the Game Act and hunting regs and study them, study them and study them. Then go out in the field and bring them along.
Authorities have been know to be corrupt, missinforming and out right lie just watch the news every day.

I'm not assuming anything, the question here, before it got derailed, was a matter of interpretation....not black and white regs. For matters of interpretation, where else do you turn but to those that interpret them.....

I usually send a letter to head office asking for clarification if there is something unclear in the regs and then you have a paper trail should you be charged one day. Much better defence in court than "sheephunter said......"

933-6240 and ask...however i'm certain that they will tell you that if it is obvious that you are hunting coyote and nothing else that you don't need to follw the dress code..but, its not a good idea. If nothing else wear a white outter shell and a red hat until you sit down to call and then take off the hat and put on a white hat...my 2 cents.

Here's the situation.

I'm going yote hunting in the A.M. with a 22 250. Where I am going currently has deer season open. I've been trying to find something in the regs, but see nothing. I called the CO and when I spoke with her, she wasn't really sure. She tried to put me through to someone else, but couldn't and took my number and someone is supposed to call me, but has not yet.

My guess is that I don't, since it'd only be the same as if I were hiking or plinking, I'm assuming I don't need to. It will be quite obvious anyhow that I'm not deer hunting.

Guess I'll keep looking and waiting

still looking, but holy #### the stuff I have found.

Take a look Sask Regs,

A beekeeper having hives on land other than his own may shoot bears within
one kilometre of his hives without a licence, if he receives the permission of the owner or occupant of that other land.

For the purpose of protecting his property or livestock, the owner or occupant
of any land may, without a licence, kill, on the land, any rattlesnake, carnivore, beaver or muskrat, other than a swift fox or black-footed ferret, and may destroy orremove any beaver house or dam found on the land.

Possession of dead wildlife
31.2(1) A person who finds dead wildlife may take possession of that wildlife if:

(a) to that person's knowledge, the wildlife was not killed in contravention of
the Act; and

(b) within seven days of taking possession of the dead wildlife, the person:

(i) applies to a wildlife officer for and is granted a licence authorizing
possession of dead wildlife;

(ii) provides the wildlife to a wildlife officer for inspection; and

(iii) pays the applicable licence fee.

a) an owner or occupant of any land may, within the limits of that land,
hunt upland game birds without a licence and a Saskatchewan Wildlife
Habitat Licence, during the game bird season; and

No person shall leave a big game hide in the field.

Envious I could do the same as a kid in Alberta on our farm we could hunt upland game without a licence when the season was open not any more though .I don't see anything wrong with it you must be from ontario

here is the actual text beyond the hunting guide

http://www.qp.gov.sk.ca/documents/English/Regulations/Regulations/W13-1R1.pdf

It does clearly state colours are required for anyone hunting big game or anyone accompanying them, thus you should be ok by my understanding. Personally I think I might avoid hunting coyotes during the two weeks to avoid the possible hassles, or just buy a white tail tag as cheap insurance anyway and wear colours.

I have a tag, but am holding off for a week or so befor I fill it.

I'm just going to be in a field helping out a farmer, but after my little run in with the CO's earlier this fall, I just want to make sure.

I'll be wearing an orange hat and my truck will be within view of me.

I doubt there'll be any issue after reading the regs again.

if your following the open deer season rules they've no cause to give you trouble, you certainly don't need to fill the tag. Shoot at whatever legal game you want (just not on Sunday).

You mean the little run-in where you left ducks on the back of your truck for three days? Ya, after that I'd be extra careful.:slap:

I was in the serm office when a fellow asked this same question. The officer said no hunting coyotes with a center fire during big game season unless you hold a tag for the big game. Unless you can prove you won't shoot a deer ( and if they can prove you were going to shoot one) Just a big gray area I guess.

I asked a CO here a couple years ago. He said it is perfectly legal to hunt coyotes during a open big game season, except on sunday. You can were camo or anything, but he advised not too. Thats what I was told.
