SASK Hunting Regs

I have a tag, but am holding off for a week or so befor I fill it.

I'm just going to be in a field helping out a farmer, but after my little run in with the CO's earlier this fall, I just want to make sure.

I'll be wearing an orange hat and my truck will be within view of me.

I doubt there'll be any issue after reading the regs again.

Hmmmm...it's deer season...you have a deer tag.....and a deer rifle but honestly Mr. Game Warden I'm not hunting deer so that's why I don't have colours on.....

Ya, I can't see you getting into any kind of bind there....

It's been my experience that people that go looking for trouble can usuaslly find it!

I asked a CO here a couple years ago. He said it is perfectly legal to hunt coyotes during a open big game season, except on sunday. You can were camo or anything, but he advised not too. Thats what I was told.

That's what I've been told as well. IIRC, we were told not to wear orange/red, but that was several years ago, so I'm not positive about the colors.

I was in the serm office when a fellow asked this same question. The officer said no hunting coyotes with a center fire during big game season unless you hold a tag for the big game. Unless you can prove you won't shoot a deer ( and if they can prove you were going to shoot one) Just a big gray area I guess.

You go back to that CO and ask him to show you where it is written in the Laws of Sask to back his statement. I have zero problems following the law but really hate when people are totally ignorant of them especially law enforcement.

The same thing can be said of a jogger running in black sweats and hoodie at night...is he guilty of maybe going to rob a store or house...cause don't all robbers do this??
Its legal to shoot coyotes with any cal. wearing any clothing, during any day minus Sunday ( during big game season) and the Muzzleloader/shotgun zones (during an open big gameseason). If Mr. CO chooses to harass you for no legal reason there is a Charter of Rights and Freedoms we can remind him of as well as Game acts and Regs.

As I said, those that go looking for trouble can usually find it........

Are you blind or did you see that I'm using a 22 250, or simply #### disturbing again.
I know you're in a hurry to correct everyone and all, but at least try and find the time to read the posts.
:)

None of the above....sorry for trying to save you some grief......

Actually by the Saskatchewan wildlife act the possession of a rifle IS considered proof of hunting. (But with the 22 250 is under callibre for big game hunting anyway)

That would NEVER hold up in court...

So by reading it that way...I am hunting when I goto the range in the off-season???

There is NO season on Rabbits...if I want to go hunting Rabbits in Jan. I can do so with ANY rifle I choose...not a darn thing they can do about it!

Of course you are right seal.....it's a big conspiracy against you and I purposefully made that effort....man, get over yourself.

My point was, when dancing in the grey areas of the law, it often doesn't take much to find yourself in court...right or wrong....it will take time and money to fight a charge......

As I said, I was just offering a bit of helpful insight.......I was more speaking in broad term......everything isn't about you.

... in the serm office ....The officer said no hunting coyotes with a center fire during big game season unless you hold a tag for the big game. ...

That Conservation Officer needs retraining or he should go work for the Ontario MNR.

And we'd be foolish to follow his instruction. If you go out hunting coyotes with a calibre not allowed for big game, he is suggesting the fact that you are doing so during a big game season is some kind of evidence that you are hunting big game, so you should get a license for whatever big game he might imagine you are hunting. That's the sort of fellow who would then infer from the fact that you have a big game license that you are hunting big game, and charge you for using a calibre that isn't allowed for big game.

I bet you would be surprised. However the whole reason it is there is to give the CO's the power to lay charges in the field if they have reasonable grounds to believe you are committing an offense. Other similar example that come to mind are not having your centre fire rifle encased in the Regina/Moose Jaw zone. You can argue you just bought it and were going home with it, but weren't hunting, but don't think for a minute you're not going to be charged. Or even being passed out drunk in your vehicle you can be charged with an impaired. There are a lot of loopholes written into the laws that are there to make it easier for the authorities to enforce them.

An example where this would be used: say if you were banned from hunting due to a prior conviction, and they see you in a field holding a gun during deer season. Possession would be proof you were hunting.

Nuff said.

uh oh, what's that I hear? Someone posting a thread, hurry along Sheephunter.....:)

Back to the topic at hand. Hunting coyotes in an area that also has an open big game season is perfectly fine. You may wear camo or anything else you wish but for safety's sake at least some hunter orange/red, etc. would be a very good idea. If you are coyote hunting and are wearing camo, etc. do not under any circumstance attempt to help or aid hunters after big game.

This is from CO in Regina.

NOT>>>...hunting includes taking, wounding, killing, chasing, pursuing, worrying, capturing, following after or on the trail of, searching for, shooting at, trapping.....bla bla bla ..it doesn't say in possession of a rifle ...

I went out today with my varmint rifle and my pockets full of coyote calls and am not scared to tell anyone i'm hunting coyotes...

the calls are my proof of what i'm hunting and as long as i'm not hunting anything but coyotes i'm not breaking the law..end of story.

for a c.o. to say you have to prove that you wont shoot deer is very narrow minded...prove i was going to then file the charge!!!!#####.
