Can someone clear this up for me.

I am looking into the T3 Hunter .243, will likely mount a 40mm scope on it.

What will I need to purchase?
Special Tikka rings....or have they made a rip off yet?
Special Tikka base required?.....or is there now a cheaper knock off?
Would I use the Medium rings for a 40mm scope?

What is it gonna cost me to get a scope on this thing?

Thanks

I have the Optilocks on my T-3 and really like them. It's a very solid set-up, but a little expensive. If you go this route the low rings will work for a 40mm scope like Crazi mentioned. My second choice would be the Talley set-up.

For a 40mm scope, go with the LOW mount Optilok rings and the bases are the same depending on mount positioning with scope. I wouldnt put anything but Optiloks on my Sako and Tikka rifles-very strong, never lost a setting..a bit pricy as mentioned but worth it in my books.

My new Sako m75 rifle has the new style Optilok rings that do not have the bases. Sweet set-up.

Ditto the commets on the Talleys - they are about half the price of OptiLocks, and they are a beautiful thing on a lightweight rifle.

I have Optilock on my T3 Hunter in 300wm and a Bushnell 4200 50mm and Leupolds with a Bushnell 3200 on my T3 Hunter in .270win.

Went with the Optilock on the 300 for the extra recoil.

Cheers

If I use Optilocks...do I need to buy bases as well?

Where do I buy these "Talleys"....unfamiliar.

Thanks

Yes, you need to buy OptiLock bases to go with their rings. One thing about the OptiLocks that I don't think anyone has mentioned on this thread is that the rings come with plastic inserts which preven any markings on your scope.

I bought a set of Warne base/ring. One piece design made of steel and very durable also mounts to the grooved like the Opti-locs I believe. Had them mounted on my T3 Hunter in 6.5x55SE. Paid about $85 new from Epps.

Ditto x5 on the Talley leightweights

Marshall Talbot has them at talleyscoperings.com Like the others said, go with the low set. The only disadvantage is the exchange right now, but still much cheaper than the optilocks.

Considering Burris 2-piece weaver style base and Burris Zee Rings
These are readily available to me and would cost $43.

Opinions on this set up? it would be mounted on a .243
Any experience with Burris?

I've got a Rem 700 with 2 piece Leupold bases and Burris Zee rings. The rings are very nice IMHO, I like the plastic inserts, which prevent the scope from being marked.

I think you mean Signature Rings - Zee ones mount on a weaver base. And Zee rings don't have inserts. :) I think....

I have the Leupold 2 piece bases and Burris Signature rings (w/ inserts ;)) on my Tikka T3 Varmint. Very solid setup indeed.

Alternatively, you could get a rail and TPS rings - now THAT'S a nice setup.
