home defence shotgun, which one?

One you can shoot well and practice with is the best answer.

Or just get an alarm that plays the sound of racking shotguns. Apparently that can be heard over the sound of screaming girls and scare away burglars, home invaders, and mosquitos..

Test. Go to the other end of your house close a door or two. See if you can hear the racking shotgun action... Homework: When racking shotgun do you want people to know you are coming and racking a shotgun? Or should you be issuing commands to your family, dog, calling for help to the operator that is on the line of the phone when you dialled 911 and dropped the phone to get your gun so load that the intruder never hears the shotgun rack?

The two 14 " Norinco HP-9 barrels I tried on a few different 870 receivers were all loose fitting and twisted slightly off to the side and did not index perfectly...the 870 barrels I tried on the HP-9 either did not fit or were a very tight fit and were also not indexed correctly.

In my opinion they will function but they are a little out of spec.

Here's what the 14" norc looked like on a remington receiver....this 870 has a flat topped receiver and is resting flat on the desk with the sides of the receiver vertical....in the second picture I twisted the mag cap so the slots are vertical and horizontal and the square is also an obvious reference....look at the lug on the barrel..:eek:

I think that the usual Norinco variable QC is in play here. I've got a 14" HP-9 barrel, which fits my 870 SuperMag Express just fine, and has no noticeable indexing issues, although I haven't tried your straightedge test yet.

As for function, I've put 100+ slugs and a pile of target shells through it with no issues. It shoots the slugs pretty well, too.

Also, the underside of the bead on mine appears to have been blackened and the machining on the hole looks a little smoother than the one in your picture.
 
That barrel was brand new so no de-tuning or blackening by fire for the bottom of the bead :)

It was pretty obvious to me just looking at the bead and the way the forend was off center that something was wrong
...the square was just to make it more obvious for the pictures.
 
I've played around with and own various species of the bargain shotguns, and for fun guns at the range, I think they're great!

But, for any serious use, ie something to take to hunt camp for predator defense, or for home defense, where you really need to feel confident that it will work when you need it to, I will stick by the original 870's and Fabarm pumps. That's just me. I still like to fool around with the cheap hardware too though .....
 
Just remember for HD no slings. You're not carrying the gun long distances, but it could snag on things. A BO shotgun needs a sling, but HD just needs buck, a bead and the rest is gravy.

I,m sorry but your completly wrong!
A HD shotgun needs a single point sling, its a must, there is no way the gun can be taken off you with a good single point sling set up.
But if you were to use one of the BFG slings then ,you can make it quick detach as well, just in case you do want to hand it over to another member of the group.
Just try taking a gun off someone that has a single point sling set up!!

Interesting point. I can see how that would help in that one particular scenario. But for the unique scenario of it benefiting you by preventing a gun grab (no liberal jokes please) you have to worry about other equally awkward situation where you may fumble with a sling and its adjustments in the dark and under stress, without getting snagged while a goblin does whatever it is they do.

How many times has the criminal actually performed a gun grab? How did the bad guy get close enough to an armed man to perform a gun grab? If he did you did something very wrong in your technique/strategy of home defense. So you don't believe in KISS for HD? Are you selling slings? Or maybe sling attachments? Could your opinion be tainted with self interest? Hmmmm....

870 barrels fits my norc perfectly, but the end cap is loose. I also tried the norc barrel on a WM and they fit perfectly as well.

So where's the problem, norc QC? Remmy QC? lol.

Yes we do make sling mount and sell slings.
But that has nothing to do with it.
A sling liek the anaconda by BFG will stock to you and is willnot get snagged on gear.
Its poss the best single point sling ever.
As for " bad guy going to try for a gun grab"
Happens all the time, you must be thinging that your goig nto see the badguy coming or that thers only one of them, and they your will not be blindsided.
In the real world you will allways be out numbered.
single point sling system is about keeping the weapon with you no matter what.
In an HD role this is the most important thing.

alot of talk in this thread about scary looking black gun's and others perception of them... and some cool pic's of 870 clones with 14" barrels and wood stock's... me think's some people forget the terror induced in jury's and the media frenzy by the term "sawed off shotgun"... hahahaha

if people havent used a properly setup single on a shotgun they probably wont understand, likewise with a decent single point and a average length shotgun with a 18" barrel it's VERY hard in close quarters to find yourself looking down the wrong end of your own gun.
 
Nice decoration like a Japanese Katana, or Boarding Cutlass, works wonders too mates. If my home gets invaded by anyone under 18, they will be writing a new chapter in the book on child abuse the next day... ;-)

Hmm... I find their information helpful. beeson is a great guy to deal with btw... and these guys help make this forum free for us. They can advertise to me all they want :)
