here is my opinion.....

at $400 I believe you could easily fill a niche market, have custom engravings and custon serial numbers as well as HK/POF like safe/fire markings on the lower, seriously for the $400 + Cost plus for the extra engraving I bet you would sell 100-200 lowers a year.....

the question is "is it worth it to you to be a low volume custom manufacturer?"

I would buy one to donate to the next IDPA provincials if it could be engraved for the occasion.... I look forward to see where you go with this, at the very least it can use your free time on the CNC machine and all you really need to produce is 1-2 a week in the spare time.

Well we turned out a sample tonight to take a photo of to pass on to the CFC guys in order to get an FRT# asap
The sample is based on an 80% forging just to expidite the process and to make certain the programming is correct.
Given the response so far some 2x4 7075 stock will be ordered forthwith.

I am not sure if custom serial numbers will be possible, but secondary engraving certainly is. My understanding of the CFC rules is that there must be standardized marking. Stuff like maker, and a standardized serial number range are required, to comply with UN marking regulations that may or may not come into effect we also need to engrave where the action is made and the year.

So the engraving will be something like this

Alberta Tactical Rifle
Model AT15
Ser# ATRS-0800001 the 08 will change with the year so 09 will be for 2009
Calgary Alberta Canada

A stylized maple leaf will be on the opposite side of the mag well, but personalization could be put there if requested

Barrels Barrels Barrels......... all the other parts can be scrounged up if need be from the EE or laying around gun shops,barrels are the problem.

I could have cash in hand but be unable right now to find a 10.5 inch barrel, when I build my rifle a few months back, I could only find a handful of barrels in the whole country and they were 16 inch barrels.

I'd be willing to bet that if we did a vote, potential buyers would prefer a shorty barrel over a 16in.

I think it would look alot better and frankly you would be a marketing genius if you sold more or produced more then 999 per year.....

Can I please put in a reservation for serial number ATR-08-069 ?? and then one reciever every year with the "069" prefix, so ATR-09-069 and so on

Wes Not sure exactly on what the CFC will want for serial numbers. I agree a few hundred lowers per year would be optomistic.

Guys I hear you on the barrel thing, but barrel making is a whole different bunch of machines not to mention a craft of its own. Not to mention a piss pot full of $$ to get set up .

Pretty much anything can be engraved with a CNC mill, the more intricate the more time to write code and obviuosly the more it will cost.
Coins are stamped, but the stamp used to make the coins is CNC engraved, so really it all comes down to 1s imagination and budget.

Quality military grade barrels are.

What I want access to are quality barrels (of all lengths).

I'd probably consider buying a really nice Canadian made lower, though, even in the range of what I would consider a steep price at $400.

I would definitely like to see all kinds of quality AR parts being made in Canada. US export restrictions are only going to get worse.

The plan is to EXCEED the quality of the mass produced lowers, which is why we chose to use 7075 billet over cheaper forgings that would save a ton of time, the last thing I want is to produce low quality product, that market is already taken.
Larue,Vltor, Sun Devil are all high end kit and costs more than the run of the mill stuff.
I see no reason that Canadain made can not be better made, better engineered, and most importantly AVAILABLE once Obama gets fully into power.
