I've heard the trigger is rubbish, but i've also heard that Canadian shooters are very picky when it comes to trigger pulls and it would be a good combat pistol.

what do you guys think?

All shooters are seeking smooth and light trigger pull no matter in the State or here in Canada. It is a very nice gun but seems Ruger didn't do much work before put the SR-9 out to the market. The chamber indicator stick out on top of the slide and look funny. The price is not bad and over all is a nice gun, I do like to have the OD with black slide one.

To be considered a combat pistol, shouldn't the pistol have a documented record of use in combat?

Or...is it just me.

"combat" handguns are just that...ones that have 'been there, done that'...
1911's (US), SIG226 (SAS), Glock (numerous special forces), etc...
I don't think that ANY unit of any consequence has ever used any Ruger product.....
As noted, the trigger pull is a classic case of 'lawyer's gone bad'........
There are so many other superior handguns to the Ruger, cost not being the prime driver in choice.

i dont know about combat, but theyd make a good defensive pistol. good for idpa perhaps

Not with that crap trigger pull....
There are so many other better choices.
I handled one...feels good, points well, but that "WTF were they thinking" trigger...........

just came back from the range, there I had the "unpleasure" to shoot this gun...
The worst trigger pull ever!!!
my trigger finger is still soar....
I own a GP100, a Super redhawk and a MkII 22, and they are all great handguns, however their semi auto center fires are garbage...

I'm with you. I know of no one who issues any type of Ruger firearm for combat. Ruger handguns are crap.

That was my first thought when I first saw this thread but decided it wasn't my place since I have no experience with the SR9.

Ruger did get a contract for the US Army, but the pistols were given to troops regularly on base or MoT or something (don't remember exactly).

It's for the U.S.Army's Tank Command, whatever that means. (I believe it's for the security for the tank factory.)

Ruger also just got a (1750 pistol) contract for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

(And in neither case was it for the SR-9.)

Beretta also got a contract with the US Army, it doesn't mean it is or was the best choice. Ruger makes some great firearms, their centre fire pistols are not in that category.

The mentioning of "it points well" or "it felt good" is non-sense. All handguns will either feel good or not depending on the person. The important criteria are reliability and ease of operation and in that order. Everything else is trivial.

If we were going to avoid adding anything in these posts that appeared 'trivial' to some then we should all abandon the hours we all spend at the keyboard, typing bulls**t for others' amusement!

Nothing wrong with stating an opinion regarding the comfort of a firearm. However comfort is neither important nor is it a qualifier for a "combat handgun".

The comment was about the grip, as well as the 'pointability'...the hallmark of a great combat ( ala 1911) pistol...not comfort.
The new Ruger certainly has potential in these regards, however, the trigger pull 'kills' it.

Wendell,

Are you able to share which Ruger CF pistol was awarded the contract if it wasn't the SR-9?

thanks
