I think I made a mistake!

Have you ever got rid of a firearm and regreted it by hunting season? I sold off my cz 550 American .30-06 earlier this year to finance another project. I used my rem 700 .308 and my .45-70 for this season, but I really regreted not having a nice, wood stocked, blued barreled, mauser actioned work horse. Don't get me wrong, I am still a massive fan the .308 cartridge, and my Marlin is my go to bush pusher, but I feel like there's something missing .This is actually the secound time I sold this rifle, but I don't think it's comming back this time. So, what to do? I guess it's time to start shopping again. I really want another mauser style action, decent wood stock, and obviously not so pretty that it sits in the safe. I have been considering another cz, remmy 798, the new Winchester mod 70, possibly a ruger 77, or at the very most a kimber 8400. I may end up going with another '06, but am open to something a bit more fun, but still an okay deer gun. I don't know much about the .325 wsm, but may look at that. The fun starts all over again :).

Okay, forgive me if this is a stupid question but, where would you go to find an actual BRNO these days?
No hurry ...... You now have all winter to find a BRNO or Husqvarna or similar on the EE.

They do show up from time to time.

I would go with a Ruger, then spend the time to accurize it and there ya go. As far as the Mauser style rifles go the Ruger seems to be the most versatile in my mind. I've yet to see one shoot well out of the box, but with the simplest of modifications and a little bit of time they will be tack drivers as I have seen.

If you lack the patients, then stay away from the Rugers.

Tradeex has a couple of ZG-47 in 30-06 that may look used but are still better then most anything going - not cheap but will be handed to your grandkids still shooting like a dream.

Just wait til you have to sell a few rifles to pay for food for you and your dog... Then you will really be kicking yourself.

I work very hard to avoid that particalar position, however in light of the current ecconomical down turn, anything is possible. I have been affected a fair amount with all that has gone on in the last few months, however I have complete faith that my wife, kids, dog and even the cat will all eat everyday and have a roof over thier heads no matter what I need to do. That being said, I have been through tough times before, they make me appreciate the good times. I also know that clearly knowing what I want is what motivates me into getting out there to achieve it. At this time, I want to replace the rifle I sold, so even though buisness is slow, I get up every morning, go to my office and try to put a possitive spin on life for myself, my partners, and our 17 employees. When I hit the goal mark I set for myself, I buy the new rifle, what ever it may be. Many have been purchased this way, and I expect many more.
Now back to my mission at hand, are all original BRNO's and Huskys fairly good? I don't have any experience with them other than the old BRNO .22 of my fathers that I still have. Aside from the enfields, my M-1, a .30-30 and a couple of shot guns from the farm days, all my firearms have been purchased brand new. I think a nice BRNO or Husky(hell, I love my chainsaw:D) would be a definate possibility, but I need some input on models to look out for.
Thanks for the input.

Hey KO,

I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way. I only used that sheepish example of what has happened to me a few times, and by no means was a reflection on you.

I know it's the internet, and contexts get screwed up in inter-space, so just wanted to clarify my intent.

And speaking of all this nonsense, I really miss my SKS. Useless but fun.

Hey Hansol. No worries guy:). The down turn has been very tough on my buisness and personal finances. I completely know exactly where you are coming from. I have, and would again, done what ever it takes to support and survive. I just refuse to give in to all the media fear mongoring out there and choose to believe that buisness will be back up in the new year. Either way, I'm buying another rifle by february and that keeps me looking ahead:D.

In Husqvarnas you want to look for a model 246/1000/1100 with the Commercial FN98 action,or what is what some say is the best Improved Mauser action out there the HVA 1600 series. It comes in a few different variations such as, Carbine,Fullstock,Rifle, then in differeing levels of embellishment.

Okay, forgive me if this is a stupid question but, where would you go to find an actual BRNO these days? As for the TC, it looks interesting, but I really want something more traditional this time.
Thanks

A 7x64 sold here just last week. That would a great chambering in that rifle. The 8 is a handful in the slender rifle, making it feel like a 338 Win Mag.
As far as Woodbeefs comment, I think he's meaning something like this.

I have three on the regret I sold list
-Husky 1100 Super Grade 30-06
-FN 1950 Mauser, my first hunting gun
-My Grampa's No.1 MKIII clunker. First two I'll get over, this one was a dumb move.

Heres my solution to this problem............I have never sold a firearm. Inherited many, bought many, but never sold a single one. Therefore I have no regrets.
