Which Rifle of the following Two???

Which rifle of the two would you choose for deer/caribou?

I've narrowed my soon to be rifle down one of two, based on a number of factors. I will be using a Nikon Buckmasters Scope (4.5-14X40 with BDC Reticle).

1) The TC Icon in .30TC, or

2) Browning Micro-hunter in .270WSM.

You do realize that there's likely a pound and a half difference in these guns. If quality is all that concerns you then the Icon is a no brainer and the .30TC is a fun calibre but I'm curious how you've narrowed it down to what I'd consider two very different guns.

Either would kill a deer or caribou very dead but pretty limited ammo selection for the .30TC.....there's Hornady or Hornady......150 or 165.

As painful as that sounds,it pretty much describes my feelings on having to make such a choice.I would never own either.I would consider an Icon,but in a different chambering.
 
Out of the two I'd go with the Micro-hunter I carryed them and there great. I hate the mag system on the abolt but I mean...load it in the morning and unload when you get back to camp...not a big deal. But I'd prolly go with .308, just because of the bullet selection particularly 180 grs...not needed to kill 'bou and moose and such...just personal preference.:shotgun:
 
Neither. The Micro has too short of a barrel to utilize the WSM case and the Icon is too heavy for a sporter for me. I suggest a Hawkeye in .270 Winchester.

Have you put a Hawkeye on the scale lately......4-8 ounces difference from the Icon........

Neither is a lightweight!

Just curious how many of the internet experts have actually handled/shot the Icon?

This internet expert is no expert. I just speak my opinion, not try to ram it down anyone's throat. :wave:

I've owned a Hawkeye in .30-06. It shot well and was well balanced. No I never weighed it, didn't have too. I've handled an Icon twice now, and they are front heavy, clubby and whether or not they weigh any more or less, they sure feel like it. I never said it was poorly made, but I think the Hawkeye is a nicer feeling rifle. :)

I would say the T/C is a better rifle all around from what I've heard but I would stay away from that cartridge.

The guys here seem to think the Browning is a good choice too. So what's your buckmark?
 
I don't like featherweight rifles unless they're in a very mild chambering, say .257 Roberts, .260 Rem level. For that reason alone I'd recommend the Icon. I don't mind the weight, and I'm not chary about trying a new or unusual cartridge. I have nothing against the A-Bolt, I've used one for over 15 years as my go-to rifle and I'm quite happy with it....but not that model, and for sure not in that chambering.

LMAO - I realize that the two are very different. I have shouldered the TC and like how it felt including weight - I know nothing other than propaganda about the cartridge.

Before the TC I had borrowed a Browning Micro for a hunt down east, grant it, not chambered in .270, but I was impressed with it on numerous levels.

I am an open minded individual and this purchase is an excuse to spend a gift certificate.

If you like the Icon, get it in a .308win. Or you could split the difference and get the long action Icon Classic in .270win.;)
