LMAO - I realize that the two are very different. I have shouldered the TC and like how it felt including weight - I know nothing other than propaganda about the cartridge.

Before the TC I had borrowed a Browning Micro for a hunt down east, grant it, not chambered in .270, but I was impressed with it on numerous levels.

I am an open minded individual and this purchase is an excuse to spend a gift certificate.

Imput is appreciated so far!!

Nothing revolutioonary about the .30TC....it's basically a .30-06 in a short action. I've got one and love it....mostly because it's new and I'm one of the few nerds on here with one but that said....it's damn accurate and a very capable round for all North American game. The one hitch is ammo availability but at least Hornady loads it and offers it with a good bullet. Nothing wrong with any of the other calibre selections but sometimes it's fun to just own something that few others do. From a guy that owns and shoots a .30TC Icon, I give it high marks all round....even though it's new and Jim shoots one! :D Sometimes it's just fun to buy a gun and calibre that you know will piss the troglodytes on here off!

Pick a gun

I know the guns listed are bolt actions...my selections if I had to have a 270wsm would be a TC Encore ProHunter...

Has anyone listed hand loads for the .30TC? I believe Hornady is the only thing available, nothing wrong with that but still not alot of choice out there.

I overheard in a gun shop locally that much like the .338 Federal..the ballistics for a .30TC were very optomistic. In other words, in a hand load, the velocities were not even close to the listed or expected fps.

You should know that I have NO practical experience with either cartridge...

I am a 7mm guy and I love the 7mm-08 Rem as we own 2.

But I was thinking about another barrel for my Prohunter and I am leaning towards 270 WSM...in a 28" barreled Prohunter it would be "smokin".

As far as guns go ...I would buy neither...

Merry Christmas

No such thing as a 270WSM in a ProHunter...you'd have to go to an aftermarket barrel. Actually, none of the WSM cartridges are available in the ProHunter. With a single shot, there's no real advantage to the shorter mags and T/C has elected to stay with the parent cartridges.

As for .30TC handloads, I'm surprised you've heard anything about them as dies just became commercially available and from what I've heard are extremely hard to get your hands on but after running the Hornady loads over a chrony, I can assure you there is nothing optimistic about their numbers but once dies become more readily available, you are correct that much like many of the short mags, handloaders will have trouble matching factory load velocities.

Another vote for neither. Hard to find the 30TC ammo and the Micro would be better served in a 308.

You can ignore todbartell...he has issues with anything that doesn't come from Big Green.

wsm

I thought the 270wsm is pretty much the only short mag that made any sense. It is pretty much smack dab between the 270 win and the 270 wtby...I was hoping TC would come with a line of short mag barrels, but alas, a custom barrel it would have to be...

.30TC and .338 federal...when handloaders find the right mix of powders they may get similar to factory load velocities...I understand that the factory loads are smokin hot and reach their stated fps. But handloaders will have trouble matching the Hornady...

Still as far a calibre I would take the 270 wsm if I had to pick only one...and it would be in a Savage with an accutrigger and blind magazine...

Happy Holidays Everyone...

The short mags were definitely designed with bolt action rifles in mind and serve no practical purpose in a single shot and T/C has no plans for them. The .30TC which is basically a short mag was designed around the Icon and only found its way into the Encore because it was a TC proprietary cartridge.
