There is no competitive advantage by removing this part, and there is no real safety issue either, no more so then any other gun on the range, of which 99% will not have a mag safety. As an SO, I have to ask and make sure it is in there, but personally I think the rule is dumb, but it is the rule and we have to follow it.
As far as the, "it saves lives" argument goes, well that goes both ways as well. I have read several articles and spoke with instructors who say the opposite, the fact that it was removed save lives because they could engage with the one round in the camber while reloading if required. This argument is nothing more then semantics and has no bearing on IDPA or any competition.
