there are stickies in this forum detailing all the neat things you can do at home to your m14s.
the well practiced method of using a dishwasher to remove the finish and any other foreign material from the stock, is not us screwing with the newbies. My dishwasher has a sanitation cycle........
this is how it's done.
remove the buttplate assembly with a flat head screw driver.
all other stock metal can remain in place.
use a good grease cutting detergent and put your stock in and run the dishwasher through a full pots n pans cycle including the dry time.
let the stock sit in a warm dry place for a day or so and then it's ready for a sand and refinish to your desired stain or oil finish.
NOW here is where all you paranoid folks can relax.....
ya get some CLR ya see, and you can get it at rona or cantire...... ya know

okay i'll stop being a smart ass, got some captain jack in tonite hehehe

. Just run your empty dishwasher through it's sanitation cycle with a small amount of CLR or use the pots npans cycle if no sanitizing cycle.
It gets mighty hot in a dishwasher..... i'm pretty sure if day old dishes don't taint the dishwasher.
anyhow...... try it if you dare
