Swiss Arms with AR Mags?

Aside from the fact you could potentially have two rifles sharing the same mags, I don't get why people would want AR mags over Sig ones. The AR mag seating method is more prone to operator error and system failure compared to the Sigs.
Good AR mags are not in abundance any moreso than the Sig mags.
About the only AR mag I'd stack up against the Sig mags for reliability are the PMags, and while they shouldn't, they do command a price of around $50 a piece up here when you see them on the EE (and they aren't there very long at that price).
Last time I bought 5/30 round Sig mags, they were $65 each; not exactly double the price.

I've got nothing against the SIG mags functionality but the cost and availabilty is certainly a set back. I sold 10 Pmags recently for 40 a piece which isn't that rediculous a price when you factor in the exchange rate, and the cost of getting them into the country... and last time I checked the new batch of SIG mags (whenever they get here) will be closer to $75 a piece. So it's all how you look at it. As well you aren't taking into account the fact that there isn't any other "cheaper" alternatives to the SIG mags. If you don't want $40 Pmags then you just go get $25 USGI mags.

Another plus to the SIG 556 lower aside from magazine sharing, cost and availability is the ability to use colapsing stocks to accomodate armor, vests or bulky clothing.

x2 I'm getting pretty sick and tired of waiting for 30rnd Swiss mags to make an apperance...not to mention when they do they will cost double the price of AR mags.

They are out there... at least 20 round legal magazines anyhow. There is a bolt action rifle that just so happens to use magazines that fit into the Swiss arms rifles.

It's called the SAN advance.

Too bad nobody wants to do anything about it... the rifle and magazines are already approved and in Canada :(

I was just talking about the neutered ones coming into stock not actual 30 round mags. This bolt gun you speak of would need to have "special" mags manufactured specifically for it for your idea to work.

Would you trust your life on a picked up mag that someone may have dropped because it malfunctioned on him/ her?

If I'm down to my own last magazine with the zombie horde breathing down my neck, why not? A 50/50 chance that the mag might jam is better then a 100% chance of zombies eating my brains if I don't. :D

So, basically...

The US SIG 556 lowers will accept AR mags, but the ones available here in Canada won't.

The SIG 556 lower is not the registered part, so therefore it should not be a problem to switch (if I can get one from the U.S.).

The advantage (or disadvantage according to a few on the forum..) is that it will accept AR mags (not necessarily a disadvantage for me), as well as still being non-restricted.

The disadvantage as I see it, is that it adds more cost to the rifle itself.

Thanks for your replies! I thought it would be easier than that, given that I had seen one for sale earlier here.
