So the 280AI has more velocity than a 7mm rem mag?
She's 5'4",130.She also shoots a .300WSM without to much trouble. I used to shoot a Ruger 77 in 7mmRemMag,sold it after I bought the first .280,too much recoil for the differnce in performance,and you could weld with the muzzle flash!If my .280s or my .280AI can't get it done,I step up to the 8mmRemMag. MurIs your wife a bigger woman? How much is the recoil difference in real terms. A 7 mm recoil is not that of a 300 winmag
Not only that but most manuals show loads to a lower pressure than a 280 is capable! I shoot 139s at 3150fps thru my chrony with is 75pfs slower reading than my neighbours. I doubt with serious hand loads in either cartridge you would see a spread any further than 100fps apart.
Now I have to buy another rifle. Darn
Recoil is as much a stock factor as anything.
I had a Parker Hale in 7rem mag that would kick the snnot right out of you!
Is a parker hale like an old style lee enfield?
Negative, The Parker Hale rifles are a mauser action w/control round feed.
The CF C3 sniper rifle is a 7.62 Parker Hale.
X2 both my wife's rifles wears R-3 pads and the McMillan stocks seem to suit her very well.She doesn't like the 8mmMag much tho'! Mur

Yo SENIOR. 139 is my what my 280AI likes. I have always liked Hornady bullets...and your right, not much spread, but lets not make the 7 Rem Mag guys mad. And as you say Stk configuration has a boatload to do with felt recoil.
Nice car, by the way. Mines a '71 ..454..Sunflower, Originally an LS 5 car. Original blowed up so did another 454 bored 40 with some stuff. Rear end went this year so put a set of 355's in. 400 turbo with a kit and high stall. 50' of rubber goin into second with 275's on it. Interior and exterior all stk,restored, frame off resto.

Nice Ackley, did you post a pic in the Car thread?? Mines a driver, go to a few cruises & stuff, 427 stroked 1/4" , dropped comp to 9/1, it'll even run fine on reg gas

Yes 280 is so close to the 7rem mag, I think the only real diff might be if your into shooting heavy bullets.

SENIOR: Not computor lit nuff to post pics. I can send it via email if you want to pm me your email address. 427 ey.. Must be a 69 or 70. I drive mine to work everyday the sun shines. No garge queens for me. I call mine a 15 ft car. At 15 ft you can't see the minor rock chips on the paint.
Actually, the Euro equivalent to 30-06 is 8x57JS.
Most would say it's closer to 308 Win but the emphasis on heavier bullets makes 8mm closer to '06.
The 280 Rem is of course practically identical to 7x64 and it is a highly regarded round.
My next bolt gun will be chambered in either of these 2 7mm rounds because of their extreme flexibility and capability.

I think the point that PeterPan was trying to make was that the 7 x 64 Brenneke is as popular in Europe as the 30.06 is in North America.
I know the point he was making, but I'd still maintain that the 8mm is a more popular cartridge there and in fact, strange as it may seem, the '06 is possibly more popular in Europe these days than the 7x64.
As far as popularity AND performance you'd be closer comparing the 7x64 to the 270 Win although, much like many cartridges, the Europeans stick to heavier bullets.
I could be wrong but there are a lot of European rifles made in '06 these days and when you speak to European hunters it is a common round.
