New Smith 500

for those times you just need to shoot a charging elephant,... lol

saw it on manswers and their special "recoil measuring tools" showed it to have less recoil than the .44mag

Ah Ha! That is where someone else saw it and told me about that episode.

I suppose when you consider the muzzle energy acting on the mass of the gun then it's possible that the .44 Mag in a lighter revolver will produce a sharper kick than the 500. Mind you the .44 I shot was a Model 29 with an 8 inch barrel. And I can safely say that the 500 will eat it for breakfast and burp out the remains in a very smug manner.

I guess we'll just need to be patient and wait for Thad to get back to us here with a range report along with a face full of sore muscles from the grinning... :D

I have the same S&W 500 and it still has a bit more felt recoil than that of my wood gripped 3" 44 mag shooting full power 310 gr gc bullet loads.

Welcome to the club. I have one of the same but mine has a different muzzle brake. Even with the Hogue grips, I found the recoil with top end loads using the heavier bullets a 'tad' hard on the hand. Modifying an old set of Jordon Trooper stocks made by Herritt's made it bareable.
I load a a variety of four different cast bullets ranging in weight from 350gr-440gr as well as four different jacketed bullets from a modified 325gr to 500gr. It's definately a power house. Enjoy.

our range rents the gun for free if you buy the ammo (67+tx for 20).

My buddy and i tried it it..

2-3 shots we're good, then the rest went south as i was flinching like a little girls watching a horror movie. Around shot 9 i couldn't really make a fist any more. lol.

I've shot 44's and this is MUCH harder. Afterwards 357 feels like a toy.

muzzle flash is the size of my car.

perfect for the convenience store owner getting robbed by moose. or the home owner being broken into by moose. you get the point..
