Our Soft Body Armor Policy

... Hey Guys ! Be FAIR ! The store has every right to select what products they "choose to carry", and select to whom the sell to! In this case, they "choose" to give a discount to CGN Members, and they "choose" to sell at competative prices, and they CHOOSE NOT to sell Body Armour indiscrinately. Seems fair and resposible to me ! And they've been up front in stating their policy, and the reasons for it !! .... David K.:)

Actually I think he stated there are more items beside the soft body armor. That is just the main point of his reasons. Your right he does have ever right to choose who he sells to. He has just pissed off a large group of possible buyers because of the way he has made policy. Personally he has nothing I would purchase because I don't need it. So his policy has no affect on me. But to alienate law abiding people would make me avoid his store.

I have not yet bought anything in your store and I do have a long list of products I will be buying in the near future. Not sure where I will get it it, but I do know where I will not buy.

Fact is Civis can buy body armour and will buy body armour, you can decide if you wish to make a buck on that or not. I personally have no use for it but the principal of discrimination is enough for me.

How can i do a background check as a retail store? How do I know who is good or bad? I cant and for me to do it on a 1 on 1 who I think basis wouldnt work either.

I know there could be a answer to fix this but I cant figure one out without getting screwed in the end.

A valid PAL wouldn't be enough? Do you "background check" when you sell ammo or a holster or a belt? They can all be used for nefarious deeds and they're the same as what you sell your "end users".

I might be persuaded to show you my RPAL to buy armour, but I'd never give you enough info to perform a background check on an item that is perfectly legal for you to sell to me and for me to own.

You're missing the point altogether. It has nothing to do with body armour. It has everything to do with a business deciding that he will control the sales of an uncontrolled product.

Would you feel differently if a gun shop suddenly decided to only sell handgun ammo to LE only and cut off "civilian" sales because some bad guys might buy it?

Edited to add: It is his right as a business owner to make decisions like this, of course. But it is my right as a consumer to not do business with businesses that treat me like a criminal.

No, I understand what Dave's is doing. Right or wrong it is their decision.

Wow, I'm speachless that someone who's supposed to be on our side would do this. What an ignorant policy.

What does a PAL have to do with body armour?

Nothing. He was making a case for a "background check" and how hard it would be to do.

A valid PAL would seem to fit the "check" requirement.

Regardless, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Well here is the deal guys.

I will look into our policy and where we can go with it. I understand why you guys are upset with it. Maybe asking for a PAL is the right answer. I do want to sell armour to the guys here in vancouver doing tac rifle, ect. They problem is opening it up to the public has alot of negativity that goes along with it. This is something I will have to look into and hopefully get it resolved asap. I do like the PAL idea.

Fair enough. But that would discriminate against law abiding citizens that aren't firearms owners that might want to buy it. And I'm not comfortable giving my PAL info to anyone that I am not legally obligated to do so.

I think the damage is done!!It's a big hole.

I dont think its about body armour.

I think its about the privilage of purchasing certain products and now losing that priviage because you do not belong to a certain "club".

I respect a business if its decision to limit the sale of a certain product, but you can lose a lot of clients because of it.

Remember when coke changed their recipe?

Would it really? We still have an individual business deciding who does and doesn't get to buy a completely uncontrolled product based on arbitrary criteria...

Yeah ooohh kay you got me.My bad

And just for the record, I walked into Dave's Surplus when I was 15 years old; I bought a nice folder knife, a holster for an airgun and a can of bear spray. I used to love the place 'cause they'd sell me anything.

I was pulled over a year or so later with that very can of bear spray in my truck - the cop took it from me and said it was illegal for me to own. Last I checked you have to be a certain age to buy knives too.

Not trying to be an a**hole here, just wondering how a product so commonly used in assaults in the mainland (bearmace) is sold over the counter to a youth. Yet a safety product such as soft armor is denied even to PAL holding adults.

And no, I was not some accidental exception. D.S. was the desired destination for hundreds of Abbotsford youth to go get bearspray in and around '02-'04 before it was being abused and 'regulated'
