He he, I’m with you on that one, nothing like a sleek deadly, no frills tac driver, everything else is secondary, I actually get quite a chuckle at some of these guys that show up at the tac matches looking like they just walked out of the Toys“R“Us store and into the tac match. Some of the firearms and equipment I see is so weighted down with useless garb it completely hobbles the shooter in speed and agility. Do they look cool? Who cares, for the money they just pissed down the drain on these expensive paper weights they could have reloaded a ton of ammo and bought a spare barrel after they wore the old one out with all the extra shooting practice. :stirthepot2:

Personally I would be interested in a 20" AND a 16", both with a 1:7 twist, but a 1:8 is fine too.

The 1 in 7 twist is the latest and greatest for long range shooting. The 1~7 twist stabilizes very high BC bullets. Yote hunters are using them to reach the "educated" yotes that stay just out of range.
 
A guy did the dimpling manually at ARF - He swore to god he would never ever do it again. It took a lot of man hours to complete the job.
 
I agree with the guy who has the TPB avatar; Stick with the sub-14" barrels and 20" match barrels!

The 16"-18" is the most common barrel available in Canada from various importer/manufacturers it seems... I've been looking for something in the 20" range (or longer!)
 
Well for those looking for competition match quality barrels, I can offer Shilen barrels from 16" to 24" in various twists rates. Ratchet 4 groove rifling is also available.

Barrels will be contoured ready for final fitting. Working on prefit barrels but I think the import/export of your bolt will be problematic.

These are doing well in service rifle shooting and Shilen definitely has a strong history of making record setting BR pipes.

Barrel blanks are also available up to 458 cal and 32" lengths so you can make whatever floats your boat.

If I could make a comment without reading the others,

It would be nice to offer some regular barrels as well, particularily the shorter ones like 10.5, 11.5, 14.5. 1:7 would be just awesome.

If I was going to buy a stainless I don't think I would want anything shorter than 20" personally, I would like to have a 24"

With respect to Rick, if he wanted to sell barrels he should (and I believe would) start a thread in the dealer's forum.
I believe his original intent was to gauge the AR shooting community as to what would be in demand, and what would sell.

Mysticplayer makes a good point - SR guys looking for a match barrel have alot to choose from -all from proven, quality barrel makers already in the game. I could be wrong, but I think ATR would be fighting a bit of an uphill battle breaking into that market -and one (based on SR match turnouts) that wouldn't be worth it in Canada. He would need to export to the US to make it worth his while.
 
NO problem. This was in no way a slight on Rick or trying to hijack his thread. More better. Big problem is getting info to people.

We complain about what we can't get from the US but we forget what we can MAKE right here in Canada.

Should we reinvent the wheel. Probably not. But we sure can customise it.

Getting barrels under 16" from the US is not so easy and going to get a whole lot more money in a hurry.

As far as I know, a Canadian running a lathe in Canada is able to machine US steel to whatever floats his boat.

We know there are lots of machining talent right here and with the right raw material, why can't we make whatever we want (within the context of the law of course).

As far as I know, a licensed MANF can produce barrels sub 18" for a registered firearm. I really don't think there is limit on length????

I can provide an inexpensive supply of very well made barrels that can come in useable lengths and dimensions. Raw stock to be stuffed into a machining process to produce....

All the various AR barrels we could ever dream of wanting.

Gear up to MAKE barrels from raw material? That is a daunting task.

Chop, machine, drill and thread. Me thinks us Canucks can do a wee bit of that.

How many 14" barrels can you get from a 29" blank? How about a stubby 40cal? or a 45 Super? 6.5 SOCOOM? 300RSAUM?

Just got to change our perspective on how to get our toys....
