What is an elitest hunter? Is there such thing? I thought that hunters are generally hillbilly rednecks who are antielite everything except Pilsener beer.

In my opinion an elitist hunter is one who looks down on his fellows who take down deer with a $250 sporterized enfield because he has a $3000 brand name gun with a $1000 brand name scope on it. I'm not saying that all of those guys are elitist, but in my experience, some of them are total snobs!

An Elitist hunter to me, is one who tries to force their morals and ethics on someone else, who they think is not doing something "Right" or "Just". All hunting is good in my books, as long as it is Legal and Safe in the Jurisdiction that you are hunting in. We as Hunter's, would do well to embrace other regions hunting styles and methods, so as not to divide us with petty bickering, thereby playing into the hands of the anti's.

Brings to my mind the hunters who will spend $10k to have a guide get them within 25 yards of a world record set of antlers and then look down on anyone who isn't obsessed solely with Boone and Crocket scores.

Pretty much anyone who figures that their way (or gear or viewpoint) is the only way and will spend all day telling everyone why and how wrong they all are.

I know one... he drives his big expensive SUV, hunts only with expensive Beretta O/Us walks around the skeet club and the pheasant preserve with his nose in the air and to top it all off, he ran for the provincial Liberals... well he ran for nomination anyway. The first time I ever saw election signs for a riding nomination!!!

He is a real prick too.

I'd say the most common hunter snob is the guy with inexpensive gear who passes his time poking fun at people with more expensive gear. Commonly heard saying: "They think they're better, but in truth I am".

X2. Snobbery comes in all income brackets. How many people do you see with a beat up win 94 who look down on a guy with a 'foreign' fancy gun and sneer that 'he thinks he's better than us, but we are the real hunters'.... blah blah blah. Then theres folks who get bent out of shape over where, when, why and how someone hunts, baits, doesn't baits etc. Snobs come on all types, and hunting is already full of them.

Now that was well said.

I have know a guy who has that attitude, except it also pertains to fishing, vehicles, houses..... Methinks someone is jealous.;)

Just what we need another thread pitting hunter against hunter!

Well said!
I am a bow hunter and own several expensive guns....So this makes me a jerk......Please!

Though I don't own any expensive shotguns I do appreciate them....Are we saying the guy that is lucky enough and has worked hard to afford them is a snob?

We need to stick together to protect our hunting and shooting "privileges".....Or risk loosing them forever.

There are jerks everywhere....

I'm one of the worst....a traditional bowhunter. We look down on anyone who uses sights, wheels, cams, releases, crossbows, scopes, mechanical or modular broadheads, arrows other than wood,....uhhh....did I forget anything?
Oh yeah, and especially.......GUNS!
Luckily I haven't gotten too arrogant yet....I'm not a good enough hunter to kill much game.

I'm way better with my rifle. Don't tell the others. Please, guys.
