Russian SKS45 long thread.

It was like Christmas for me today!
I met a fine CGN member and got the Savage 10FP that I bought from him (thanks duceman!), and then swung by the post office on the way home to be happily surprised that my hand-select and shooter grade had arrived from Frontier :)
I can't see any difference between the two though - they are both refurbs (I believe), all matching numbers - nothing force matched save the stocks, one is a 1950 - other a '53.
Both guns are in exceptional condition - no stock dings even!

what do you want one of these for ? when you have a super duper FN C1A1 on your hot hands . :D

.....which I can't legally shoot until I convince my landlord to let me build my own range in the garage, which I doubt he will do. (BTW I have another Aussie enroute, early with the wooden carrying hadle...but that's another story).

I have just got back from town to pick up my new baby. So far I have only got it unwrapped and stripped, the de-cosmo begins shortly. What I have noticed so far:

-Tula 1954
-re-furb (diamond mark on the top-cover, and solid birch stock with ###xx's)
-all matching, bolt. carrier, receiver and trigger. The only electro-pencil I can find so far is on the gas tube
-Bolt carrier etc still in the white.

I got a shooter grade from Frontier. I expected forced matched and fairly beat up, but this looks factory new, and obviously went into war stocks as soon as the re-furb was done. I am extremely happy with what I got.

My VZ-52/57 arrived the day before yesterday, and it is still in pieces on the bench, so I will be able to do a side by side camparison. Happy, Happy, Joy Joy.

DHL is going to make me have an aneurysm. The Driver decided to not do his job, and put a green sticker on the package, which flags it for the warehouse to pull off the truck, and in turn pop up on their scanner that I want it held for pickup. Not only did the driver not do it yesterday, but he hasnt done it again today, so instead of me having new toys in my hands tonight, they get to bounce around in the back of this morons delivery van until monday, when he will try and fail to deliver it again.

hopefully, the lady that was at the counter, can find her supervisor, to get the package pulled off the guys truck tonight, even though it isnt green stickered, since they know the drivers name and truck (she said she would try anyway)

you may have the rare , original laminated .

questions:

1. do you have a star stamped on the left side of receiver ?

2. do you have inspection marks stamped around the forward coss bolt ?

Yes, there is a star on the left side of the receiver. Not sure what I should be looking for as far as inspection marks. if u r referring to the bolt throgh the stock located under the rear sight, there is a funny letter stamped in the hollowed out portion in front of the bolt (looks like a bacwards R). There are also 2 symbols on the wood directly behind the trigger. No star in the wood, just the serial number of the rifle.

I am more than happy with my "Shooter Grade".

No production year, no factory marking, all #'s matching except the stock has been X'd and re-numbered to match, and the gas tube has been electro-pencilled. The wood looks great except for a minor repair to the butt. All metal parts are in fantastic condition, looks like new production.

Your 1950 should have the spring-loaded firing pin.

Lucky bastard!:D

My two Frontier hand selects arrived today. A 55 and a 53. Both are Tula. Both appear to be new, not refurbed. The 53 barrel has some black colour to the bore, suggesting to me that it has been fired. The 55 is a chrome colour. One has a nice colour to the wood, the other is dull.

I am happy. Debating if I should shoot one. I have a Norinco with a peep sight for shooting.

do you have the 4 inspection markings around the forward crossbolt?

Anybody here ever have trouble taking out the retaining pin on the bolt assembly? I had no trouble doing it on my unissued rifle... but on my refurb, the thing just won't budge. I've actually given the retaining pin a significant dent (thank god not the actual assembly) from nailing it so hard and it didn't budge an inch, so I just gave up. lol. I'm just gonna marinade the thing in solvent and hope it's enough to clear anything in it.
