Russian SKS45 long thread.

if your follower touches the feed lips then the "block" that lifts up should hold the bolt open.if the follower dosen't touch the feed lips then that block won't lift up high enough to engage the bolt.man, they really did a half-a$$ed job welding that pin in place--oh well, that's what dremels are for...:runaway:

p.s. i'm still very happy with my $283.45 gun.it's not a $2000.00 gun it's a milsurp...

ya it doesnt touch the lips

Im happy with both of mine still, could they be better, definately, but for the price, they'll be full of good times

you guys/girls and your 'authentic shellack' seriously, if you want to abuse the thing in the rain and snow, use Varathane :) The russians woulda used it 55 years ago

varathane is polyurathane, basically it'll be thin clear hard plastic when it dries, so the wood wont get water spots or anything. (minwax works too)

I'll admit I've never put it on a gun stock before, but I put it on hardwood stairs, and after a year of heavy use it still looked brand new (as well as being on coffee tables and pretty much any furniature Ive refinished)

Did anyone else get one with no cosmo in it?

I only had a bit in the bottom of the magazine. Everything else was perfectly clean and oiled. Great shape. I almost feel ripped off that I didn't get to de-cosmo it. LOL! 1953r Tula.

###'d out stock X1 and everything else had stamped match except gas tube which was electropenciled. Blade was bright and shiny. Front site is waaaay over to the right like some of the others mentioned here. I am very happy with it.

Mine had none . I don't know why so many people here have to strip these things down to the smallest pieces . Mine had a light coating of oil . All I did was wipe it down & run a patch through the barrel . I'm not touching the stock finish . Sounds like many of these referb or unissued guns will be forever altered now that they are in the hands of civilians . As for mine its staying as issued to me .

Stairs Yes . Gun No
No shinny finish on my guns thanks

hi pat 25,welcome to the red star addiction support group!
that "shiney ring" is you chrome-lined bore.
nothing wrong...

Yea it is.

I see treads on other places that still have them and I find myslef debating if I have enought pocket change for an other one. Specifically one with a laminated stock.

I already have more guns then I really need. I got this one on a whim.

I figured the price was right. I like the caliber both in terms of recoils
and $$ . Most of all I told myslef, when these things start poping up on the net in a few months at 300-400$ I'll be kicking myself.

They already are popping up in the EE . Last one sold for $350 in less than 1 hr if I remember right

Military rnds have hard primers . Reloads & commercial have soft primers . which can cause slam fire in some surplus Military semi autos
A SKS without a firing pin spring (Like most of us have) could be a candidate

I have fed both my norc, and my rusky all kinds of ammo. Czech corrosive, South African, Sellier and Bellot, and some commercial stuff from the States, and i have never had a Slam Fire. As long as you keep the firing pin clean and dry so that it rattles when you shake it, you should have no problems

Just got my 1953 all matching except forced stock shooter grade.
Non chromed lined barrel, Although I cant see frosting or pitting.

What do ya think T, this mixes up some things.

This is true . I shoot reloads in M14 ,M1 Ar15 ,Ar180 and haven't had a slam fire . I tried to get CCI Nato primers as they are harder but no one carries them up here . But there is documented cases of slam fires with commercial & reloads . But I suspect they are rare
