What is the current issue pistol of the RCMP. Any details about the pistol or links to further info appreciated.
Saw one at the RCMP info session in the holster, but could not determine make and model. Looks to be stainless though.

Sorry ogdragon55 but David K is correct. Its the 5946. CBSA is the PX4, CSC is getting H&K P2000, and I think Fisheries and Oceans is 5946 as well, all in 9mm

There is a female officer in Quesnel who has a Glock of sometype in a horizontal shoudler holster. She's only like 5 feet tall :D

I had to deal with her lots when working security.

.. "drache" ... It's most likely the smaller framed version of the "Service Pistol" ... the common reference being "The Barbie Gun". 'Issue shoulder holsters are currently, all horizontal, with two magazine pouches and a cuff case on the "off side" . .... David K

David K is definitely right. The RCMP regular Members carry Smith & Wesson Model 5946 9mm parrabellum. The other option is the Smith & Wesson Model 3946 which is smaller for either small hands or concealment. No Glocks. Other specialized Members carry Sigs but again, those are for specialized units.

Can someone post a picture of a Model 3946? This handgun was all black, no external hammer, and a "square" slide.

... GLOCKS are definitely NOT RCMP issue. The Grips on the service pistol is a black plastic, different arches etc. are available, as are slight variations on the Holsters "back plate" . In a shoulder holster, the Barbie Gun just about disappears and the grip does cover the rear portion of the frame. On both issued pistols, they're DAO, NO hammer spur, and the slide is relatively square, blackened sights on both versions. ... David K.

From a mechanics of self defense point of view this is not a safe way to carry for a LEO.

The S&W has an interesting setup as cannot release slide with right thumb (release positioned very far forward), no safety, and double action only though the pull is smooth and releases fairly early in travel compared to DA/SA I've shot. Like David K said, blackened sights, no hammer spur.

Some of the city police forces carry Glocks.

Ok the entire gun is black, slide, grip, receiver, all of it. I've seen the sidearm out of the holster on two occasions. Sounds like the same gun!

I still want to see a picture of the 3946, I can't find one online for the life of me! :D

I know some agencies have allowed women with smaller hands to carry an approved alternative to their standard issue. One CBSA officer will be carrying the PX4 sub-compact due to hand size. There are some female cops around Toronto carrying M&Ps because of the adjustable backstraps.
Maybe this mountie has been allowed to carry something else.

Yeah i dont believe one exists.. however if you guys are maybe referring to the 3906?

If I had an RCMP issue "hand gun" I would use it for a paper weight or a substitute for the brick I use to keep the crow's from getting in my garbage can and making a mess. The trigger pull on the S&W is 100% double trigger all the time and it's an awful big pull. This heap of crap weigh's a ton and the grip well lets just say a five year old could make a better one out of silly puddy! There is only two thing's about the RCMP service sidearm that were any interest to me after my constable friend allowed me to try it at the range.
  1. The mag's hold 16 witch is much better than the ### 10 that we as civilians get to deal with.
  2. It's in 9mm so I could replace what I shot from my girlfriend stash of ammo and swear to myself that I would rather get a
    :kickInTheNuts:
then to ever use that disgrace of a sidearm again in my life.
Seriously if the bonehead that is in charge of issuing the RCMP ever read's this you really disserve a huge
:slap:
For the dis-service that you are doing to our constables's in using this crap! I told my constable friend that if he wanted any of my sidearms to protect his life don't even ask just take them and throw that heap of crap of the first bridge that he come's across. I don't belive what we get away giving our RCMP to protect there & our lives with. We should be ashamed. Sorry that's just my point of view on that disgrace to the "hand gun" world the S&W 4906 jam o matic!

A very good friend of mine who just returned from Afghanistan after a year there with CIDA, carried one of these for his entire tour and although this is not at all his favorite gun, he would certainly argue your opinion of this gun. According to him, it served him very well in the sandbox and was very reliable and accurate.
