Is the Tikka T3 the new Remington 700?

The way they are shutting plants down, they may not hold that title for long but their forray into handguns may prop up sales a bit but I guessing they wish they'd have done that a year earlier and taken advantage of the pre Obama buying spree the American public went on. Guess if they were really such a leader they'd have seen that coming and not been Johnny come lately to the handgun market.....

I'm not anti Remington at all and have used and owned a few over the years but the way some go on about them, you'd think they were the second coming. The way their sales are sliding, the may be the second going...

I hope not but they do need to pull up their socks.

Er................where did you hear that Remington is getting into handguns? There is nothing on their website, and the only real-new gun in the 09 catalog is a shotgun. The gun world doesn't revolve around Remington, but you'd better believe that when the old majors are faltering, more progressive companies will see an opportunity to fill the void. Anyone who attempts to deny that Remington and Winchester where the lions share of the North American bolt action rifle market ten years ago is a fool. There was a time when a person bought a new bolt action rifle that their friends asked them "Is it a Remington, or Winchester"

You might be surprised what's coming from Remington....

Yup, Rem and Winchester were once the Ford and GM of the gun business...we all know what's happening to Ford and GM. Times are changing for sure.

Yes, there was a time when a marlin was a poor mans winchester in a lever gun.
The last winchester lever gun I picked up was new in a gun shop.
In the closed position the lever would wiggle side to side making a rattle noise.
Some bush gun. Piece of crap.

Can the T3 be custimized etc like the 700 in terms of its design? Is it engineered so that it could be acuritized etc if the parts were available? Does the use of a clip make it less rigid so it is more difficult to accuritize?

LOl Most new Sako's have actions like butter. I can't say that about the 700s. Not at all. Sako may be overpriced but the two are not comparable out of the box. As for heavy my Sendero is a tank.
I've owned a few Rem 700. all shot under 1" @ 100m. never had any fuctional problems with any of them. nothing ever broke on any of them

I like my Sako, but it's a typical euro gun. heavier then it should be, over built, to many little "do dads". goofy (and expensive) ring mount system. very very very disapointed in the "synthetic" (plastic) stock on a $1500 rifle.

my rem model 7 and my former BDL have the smoothest actions I have ever felt. I had clients this year show up with $3500 custom Sauer 92s that were oooo'ing and fondling my M7.

as for euro gun snobs, one of the other guides I work with has a T3 .300wsm and the same clients never stopped making fun of his plastic gun :)

I don't quite understand where all the rem bashing comes from. Rem 7/700 = plain, simple, bombproof action.

Were do people come up with this stuff?

They pull it out of their

I can't help but laugh.

Remington and Winchester have always been the GM and Ford. They each dominated the respective market spaces years ago and have been unable to change or refused to change according to times. They each manufacture their products according to same old approach and ignored the market demand and competitors positioning. As a result, these four companies have been moving in the same direction – down hill.

GM and Ford are bleeding to death and are looking for the rescue plan

Winchester has moved on

Remington is loosing their market share steadily:

• Entry level - the Savage/Steven is making a kill in that space
• Mid market – Tikka is now one of the most sough product
• High end – well Remington had nothing to loose. They were never there in the first place.

While there are many die hard 700 fans out there reminiscing the glorious days and enjoying customizing/restoring their toys (reminds my of the Corvette fans), the new generation hunters are moving to the Stevens and Tikkas.....

I think Remington is capable of realigning their market strategy to compete successfully with the Stevens and Tikkas. The 5-10 years will tell.

It's to bad. When the uneducated, blind faithed, hang on some gun rag article crowd bought a Remington or Winchester they had something. A rifle that would literally last a lifetime. Now they get accurate junk. Savage and Tika are pretty good examples of that.

Chuck, we're wasting our time here. Beretta has everyone convinced that plastic is better than any alloy, so be it...They are the marketing Kings...

The last Tikka I looked at had some type of hard plastic on the bolt. Compared to the older Tikka 595 they are not even close to as nice. The Remington 700 has earned it reputation, being an owner myself 700 BDL 300 mag all I had to do was free float the gun which costs pennies, Its not a gun I will depart with.

Chuck, you're starting to sound like a bitter old man that feels the computer was the ruination of society......times change and I'm not sure why a Tikka won't last as long as a 700. Different times...different materials.

Yes, Remington is dying a slow death and Tikka is on the move in the mid priced range rifles.

Once the USA or Rem stops exporting rifles and ammo to Canada it will be all over then. Too bad.

Here's a little info for you. ALL Tikka and Sako rifles come through the US. Stoeger imports them through Berretta USA. When the US stops the arms exports, you won't see any Tikka's anymore either. ;)

They won't be imported from Finland.
