Here are some more pictures of the backpacker from some different angles....

First impressions are good.

28 1/4" long
The trigger had a small amount of creep but after a "poor boy's trigger job" it feels pretty good!
The muzzle is sharp and needs some de-horning and the hammer and break-lever could use a minor de-horn as well.
Feels quite solid and the weight is more then I thought it would be...
The trigger and guard are solid steel and beefy.
Stock feels pretty good for length and it shoulders well.
There is a small line cut into the receiver that I guess is to help with aiming but it is hard to notice and the brass bead is easy to see.
The rubber butt pad is quite hard.
The action can be opened with the hammer cocked and the hammer will drop when the trigger is pulled and the action is open.
Extractor.

Needs,

Some sling mounts.
A custom stock with storage inside and a better pad.
A few 10 inch 12G. insert barrels chambered for .22lr,9mm,45acp etc...:)

Sure looks like it'll take the same stocks as those NEF/H+R/Rossi's. Like those crappy ATI ones.
I think I'd leave mine with wood, but then again I bought the outlaw instead....

Thanks for the pics.

I've never handled the survivor stock... but I'm pretty sure I prefer the straight stock and it should be pretty easy to bore out some wood on this one.

does Stoger know China Arms stole their name for a stubby single shot shotgun?

or how NEF/H&R feels that you guys are buying a total knockoff? so much for supporting the north american economy...

Maybe you should give them a call and report CanAm!

I was actually unaware of any other 12 gauge single shot's with similar specs?

What are you talking about Phib?

Hey Phib, while you are talking with H&R about patents etc......can you ask them why there cousins to the north can't participate in there Barrel Accessory Program?

The fun police have arrived. Almost as bad as the Fudds who wanted to lecture us on why we don't "need" shorty singles and doubles from China.

the fun police have descended on every thread about these shotguns. It seems inevitable, I think its funny that a thread about a pair of shotguns that a bunch of people are really excited about dissolved in ridiculous bashing to the point of getting the thread locked. The gun companies that are part of the north american economy are not interested in Canadians having lots of diverse guns and or accessories, if NEF/H&R wants more of our business, they can suit products to our market.

Yes the entire economy runs off the sale of single shot shotguns.

Dang , how did i miss this ? Where can i see a pic of the whole gun and what's this about inserts ? I have a little .410 and used to have a .32 insert , but lost it . The insert was about 6 inches long .

plus it also acts as a hand stop so you don't accidentally let your fingers slip in front of the muzzle:)
