So you're all saying that image of the Ayatolla Khomenie I carved into the buttstock with an old wood-burner set on my pristine Persian Mauser won't be appreciated?

I suppose I'll have to go and special order one of those Czeck built AR rifles, and ask if they can put some Nazi proofmarks on to it, to really drive the Milsurp collectors absolutely bonkers.

Somebody get me the sellers address? I need to send him my medical bill. I had to remove both my eyes after seeing that thing !

Damnit if that were up north here I think I'd buy it for the hideous nature of all. swap out the wood and make the rifle look proper again, but that carved butt is so grotesque it's in a whole other league. I think I saw that rifle on an episode of Friday the 13th: the series "Goat Man's gun"

During the "Chinese Cultural Revolution", and untold numbers of ancient, "undesireable art" were lost forever to the willful and hateful destructions. The Taliban in Afghanistan destroyed a 1500 year old Budda statue, the largest in the world, the Nazi's burned "undesireable" books, among other things.

Art are not for destruction. The folk artist who created this piece of canadiana, never intended to offend anyone. He loved his creations, and we should respect that.

Dude you're sounding like a liberal. Just because your kid draws you a picture of a flower and you put it on your fridge for a week doesn't mean it has cultural or historical significance and should be preserved for future generations. Free speech is great, but not every word written on paper need be preserved and worshiped as a declaration and a testimony to that right regardless of quality or content.

"The folk artist who created this piece of canadiana, never intended to offend anyone. He loved his creations, and we should respect that."

Well it doesn't fit ant criteria I know to be called Canadiana, and I doubt the creator (note I chose not to say artist :p) ever intended it to be put up in the Louvre either.

Frankly the argument about undesirable art being destroyed by the Taliban and the Nazi's doesn't wash here. As I alluded to before, those were historically and culturally significant pieces. In this case the only item of any historical value is the rifle itself, and the "artist" was the one who disrespected that. By your criteria, a tagger who sprays his graffiti on the Coliseum in Rome should be respected and his art should be preserved and respected as well. Sorry but I'm using my right of free speech to disagree with you on this one.

And I'm likely the only guy here that rather likes it and would actually keep the damned thing because of it bizarre macabre appearance (just not on the rifle!)

This Robert Rees must have been satanic, as that creature looks like some fiery hell demon lol! Its red, got scary claws, creepy horns, and its going to chop you up into little pieces with its axe!
Art?! This is anti-art, as in it is made of the very essence of anti-particles. It has a negative value to appreciate, it actually induces self destruction of the human body. I want to hurt myself while looking at it !

Lee-Enfield are not exactly a rare and expensive breed of guns. They a dime and a dozens. So one of them got used by a canadian folk artist to create a "jackalope". Few dollars, a new or used wood and metals could be bought at the next guns show, and voila, the "jackalope" gone, and the Long Branch is again transformed into a desireable collectors rifle.

However, with all the attention and fuming in these fine pages about this "jackalope", this piece of canadiana could be turned into hard cash, by putting this piece of folk art on Ebay, this time with a story of much this piece of folk art was hated by the gun collectors, and maybe some liberal art collector would buy it :)

15 min, that's all I need, I have a spare butt, spare LB bands, and a big screwdriver. I'll have that fixed in no time.

Then I'll send the Folk 'art' butt off to Dosing to make into a cribboard :D

best of both worlds :dancingbanana:
