Appreciation for Service Program for Canadian Forces Personnel

Just checked AGAIN on the TF 1-08 order, which was paid for back in Aug 2008. The current official word is that they are finished production but now waiting for engraving, apparently 300 orders ahead of ours, and the engraving is sub-contracted out to a one-man show. Sarah at Tetragon says "It is what it is." Nice. Many of the guys that ordered are getting really pissed; if there was a chance that delivery was going to take so long they should have stipulated from the beginning. Not impressed.

Although part of the Appreciation for Service Special, the TF 1-08 program was handled in Theatre by a couple of guys who had an "in" with Tetragon. The pistols were paid for in advance and Tetragon placed the order through Para. Unfortunately a breakdown in communication resulted in the delays. At the time Tetragon placed the TF 1-08 order, Para was already booking production times well past what you had been told your delivery date would be. Tetragon did not had a confirmed production date with Para for the TF 1-08 pistols before your money was collected.

I have confirmed with Para that delivery of the TF 1-08 pistols to Tetragon should be made by 31 March 2009. How long it takes Tetragon to transfer and ship the pistols to you, I have no idea.

My intent here was not to point fingers at Tetragon. Instead I have provided you with the ground truth as I know it.

Good enough for me. I don't intend to be on the range until at least then. I have the luxury of being a fair-weather soldier now. Would've been nice to have it by now, but there's only so much cleaning and cycling a pistol can take...

The heads-up is much appreciated Words Twice, better than the used-car-salesman song and dance we have been hearing. A lesson to suppliers - always open with the truth when dealing with customer inquiries, it just might pay off in the long-run.

Para did a run of that pistol for us as well. Has anyone had any issues with theirs? Mine looks and shoots great, but two of my friends have had the mags break (all 5 that were shipped with each gun). There seems to be a feeding issue as well, still trying to see if it is mgazine related. Only factory Winchester 230 gr ball loaded and we're getting a failure to feed every mag, sometimes more.

I registered on the para website yesterday but so far I haven't got an email back from them. Is it a problem with my DWAN address?
I've got some questions about the 9mm though (search would take forever on the ship's connection).
How light is the DAO pull? Similar to a Glock or more like the first round on a Sig?
It's double stack, are the mags specific to that gun or are there other double stack 9mm that share them?
Finally are there any .22 onversions slides that would work with this frame? I like to shoot ALOT, so thats my main requirement for a pistol.
Thanks,
Grant

I have the Para 9mm LDA version. The only issues I have had so far, is the base plate on one mag broke off after hitting a concrete floor. The rib/rail it slides on tore off. I suspect all my mags will suffer a similar fate, it is just a matter of time. I have started a thread about it on the PARA site, and Para is looking into fixing the problem.

The mags will still work without the base plate, because of the design.

No feeding issues, runs like a charm.

Grant,

I have the 9mm LDA version that was offered in the 2008 CF program.
The Trigger: is very light compared to any other DA/SA I have tried. The Sig double action first shot trigger pull is very heavy compared to the LDA. The pull is similar to the GLOCK Safe Action, in that you only get one pull. If it doesn't go bang, then you have to rack the slide to set the trigger again. Not like a Sig where you can just keep pulling the trigger. The trigger is long, smooth and has a very noticeable break to it. Almost like a 2 stage trigger. It does have a fairly long reset, maybe a bit longer than a GLOCK, or close to it.

The Mags are Double Stack, and as far as I know, only fit Paras. Here is a pic of the mags and pistol.

I don't know about a .22 cal slide. I reload with a Dillon, so I churn out bullets by the 100s.

As far as I was told in PRT is it is a .45, Single Stack, LDA, Nite Tac in Coyote brown. I believe there was the option to go .40 S&W too though. Unsure as to whether you can convert it, though I doubt it.

well i guess my wishes were answered. here's what i got from Sara @ Tetragon today:

"Jeremy

Yes the pistol is a single stack action
45ACP Desert Ready Finish S/A W/Light Rail
C/W 2 MAGS; NIGHT SIGHTS; AMBIDEXTROUS SAFETY;
FLAT TOP SIDE; 3 EXTRA MAGS,FULL ENGRAVING"

i was gonna get a spartan, but i guess now i dont need one. it'll be nice to get these awesome pistols at the end of march

What about contractors that have "@forces.gc.ca" accounts?????

Well the Para forums seem to only ask for a forces.gc.ca account. Presumably, this is offered to only CF members....and under the honour system that civies working for the CF won't buy. (This would have applied to the US when Para was offering the same deal to a bunch of units)...

However, Para may not have a problem with civies taking advantage either...I don't know.

This is my read of it:
1. The CF Appreciation for Service Program is managed by the CF (Words Twice), and is open to former and serving members. It is not Para that vets who can buy, but the CF through Words Twice. Convince Words Twice that you are who you say you are, and you should have no problems.
2. There is no honour system that would exclude DND civilian employees. They are also eligible for the program. I have pasted in a quote from Words Twice from earlier in this very thread with clarifiies elegibility. As for contractors?, that would be up to Words Twice to rule on. I would suspect that some contractors working for the CF or DND would be eligible. Their work is instrumental for the CF and DND to meet their aims, so I can see some of them being "ok'd", but that is up to Words Twice as he put the program together and is running with it.
3. Note that the CF Appreciation for Service Program is only one of many programs, and it's eligibility rules are not the same as the others. Each specific program will have it's own rules: like the Task Force 1-08 program for instance would have it's own specific eligibility rules that would not be the same as for the CF Appreciation for Service Program.
Correct me if I'm wrong Words Twice.
PS: I'm really liking the LDA,, and have over 2 thousand rounds through it now.

Who is eligible? Current and former members (Reg and Res) are eligible for the program. There are others (full time DND civilian employees, etc.. who will also be approved). The easiest way to join the program is to register at the Para's Military Only Forum using your @forces.gc.ca account. If you don't have a DWAN account, send your service or employment info to me at: cfparadeal@shaw.ca I will verify your eligibility and give you access to the forum. A scanned document or ID card e-mailed to me is good enough for access.

Holster

Has anyone bought a holster for their Para. I have a double stack and it will not fit in the WWII 1911 holster I have.

Any suggestions on what holster will fit it?
