9mm 1911's

Holy crap.

If you find it that bad, all you have to do is cover it in grip tape. Or wraparound grips.

I have been looking at a 9mm 1911 for sometime now. I tried to get a Springfield PX9 (SS 9mm full size with fixed sights), but after 2 years I've given up.

I like the idea of the Ranger II. Short, a fully supported bull barrel and (hopefully) STI quality behind it. The scalloped front strap is no big deal. I've always run wrap-around grips anyways.

Is this the one (wearing Wilson grips) you mean? I love it but to be honest the slide to frame fit has a little rough spot in the middle when racking. Doesn't affect shooting at all but you can tell it's not a custom pistol. I'm adding a Kimber 9mm Stainless II as soon as the Reliable shipment arrives.

Mike,

Yup, thats the one. How old is yours and where did you find it?

If STI made the Ranger II in stainless it would be my ideal factory 1911.

How come the 9mm is $500 more than the .45? I don't see much need for a bob-tail up here where there's no concealed carry to speak of.

Mike

I think the 45s are older stock from the days of the on-par dollar. There is also a charge to build in any other calibre than .45

I bought mine (The Springfield) unfired from a CGN regular less than a year ago. I really recommend that 9mm Trojan that Gunnar has at Armco. The one I bought from him was absolutely beautiful and fit/finish terrific but I just didn't care for the front strap scalloping.

I have a blued 9mm Trojan - awesome pistol - needed some extractor tuning but I always take my 1911 for trigger job to Rodger Kotanko. Once I got it back it eats anything factory / my hand-loads / hollow points.

I like 9mm 1911 so much I'm building another one from ground up. Norinco frame with all markings (except serial # ;) ) removed - Caspain slide / Kart Barrel / mix of EGW and Brown Parts / light rail / hard chromed frame and hi gloss blued slide.

I'm also getting 38 Super Kart barrel fitted so I can shot both the 9mm and 38 super out of it.

Who's building it for you?

I had Gunnar build me a Caspian 40cal single stack 10 years ago. I may rearange my collection and go custom again.
