Bartell is in Edmonton at the sports convention, he has been telling me stories of the .416 Ruger and of course, in his Gun Pimp ways, has been urging me to buy one...

I haven't taken a close look at it to see how it stacks up with the other .416 caliber cartridges. Is it the NEW KING?

Some industry show...All I know is that gun and sports equip manufacturers are trrundling him around to Wild West Shooting Centre for pistol shooting, and then buying him lots of whiskey...He's been there for a few days...Liver is probably size of a basketball.:p

What? If you trade in your 375Ruger on a .416 this year, what are you going to trade up to next year? Have to be a .50 I guess. Damn, you guys must grow big moose out there.

I am very interested in the 416 Ruger/rifle package will it be King of the 416's the answer is "no not ever" just like the 375 Ruger will never be King.

The 416 Ruger will possibly fill a nitch that I am looking to fill though have to see the rifle and handle it a bit. :dancingbanana:

The .375 Ruger was already proclaimed New King quite awhile ago, that is a different topic...:slap:

Presently, the 416 Rem is the most popular of the .416's, of course. The Rigby is the grand ol champ, but I can't imagine .416 Rigby sales at an all time high these days.:)

The 416 Ruger will be an emminently practical 416 and probably the best one commonly available (this assumes that it IS commonly available). It is, after all, about the same as a 416 Taylor without the belt. Since today's shooter's have finally been convinced a belt is superfluous, it should do well. (Gunsmiths and some writers have been saying for years there was no need for a belt but until it was confirmed by advertising agencies, nobody believed it!). The Ruger case is slightly larger than the Taylor so it can attain the required ballistics at lower pressures and with a greater variety of powders. These are good things. Prior to this, the 416 Remington was probably the most practical of the 416's but it needed a long action. The Ruger does not.
The 375 Ruger and 416 Ruger may never achieve the worlwide recognition of the old British cartridges against which they compete but they are better cartridges. Just as the 30 Newton was a far better cartridge than the 300 H&H.
I'm slightly peeved because I have had reamers for the 375/338 and the 416 Taylor for years and may never get to use them again! Regards, Bill.

Some how I keep missing were/how this happened... :p

Gotta run just got my Leupold Vari -X 111 2.5-8X back from Korth Agencies with it's new B&C reticle this morning mounted it right away now I need to get to the range to sight my 375RUM back in and it's already 3pm.

From a practicle standpoint the 416 Ruger is it, but it doesn't come in Winchester rifles so its out. Since Wins. can take the Rem Mag thats the way I would go. Actually just selling my Rigby tonight, probably build anther Rem. Mag. I just saw the 375 African in person the other day, very nice trim package. If the .416 comes out in the African it would be a very handy med. bore. Would it be the new king of .416s, NOT FREAKIN LIKELY.

And apparently the minds of many others. Sales of 375 Ruger rifles have been staggeringly high, while sales of the .375 H&H- The Deposed King- have been relatively flat...:dancingbanana:

My brother had/has one of the very first Ruger Alaskans in Canada and I got to play with it last summer and compare it side-by-side to my 375 Browning.
Accuracy was similar, case life was similar, the Ruger burns more powder, my H&H feeds smoother, etc.
As far as I'm concerned the pros and cons are about equal...it boils down to a matter of personal choice for the buyer...certainly not enough difference for me to dump my H&H and buy a Ruger....I did like the Ruger except for the stock. King ?...not in my mind and apparently not in brother's either as he is re-barreling it to something else.....:)

I wouldn't expect anyone to dump thier H&H to buy a Ruger, although some have. I know I did, but it had more to do with the rifle than the cartridge.

Just liek when the WSM's came out. No need to dump your favorite 300WM for a 300WSM, but if you ar ein the market for a new 300...

What is he rebarreling to?

(But this thread is for the 416 Ruger, not the New King of the 375's) ;)

ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!!

I wish I had something that needed a 416 to kill it...:(

Why did you have to spoil a perfectly good thread with a WSM reference? The Ruger magnums are relatively sensible, beltless offerings. The WSM's are short and fat. Regards, Bill
